Florence alumni have 119th banquet

A total of 143 alumni, guests, and teachers attended the 119th annual Florence Alumni Banquet on May 23 at the Florence Gymnasium.

Classes represented were from 1940 to 2015.

Special recognition was made of the classes of 1940 (75-year graduate, Nadine Noll Hoch Kline of Texas), 1945, 1950, 1955, 1960, and 1970.

The Florence High School Class of 1965 was honored at the head table as 50-year graduates.

Alumni traveled from eight states: Arkansas, Colorado, Florida, Indiana, Missouri, Nebraska, Texas, and from 22 towns in Kansas. Sixteen alums were from Florence, 12 alumni from Wichita, and 17 alumni from Marion.

Mike Robinson, class of 1967, was master of ceremonies. Lauren McLinden, scholarship recipient in 2014, told about her first year at Kansas State University.

Florence High School Alumni Association awarded a $1,000 scholarship to Dylan Carpenter.

Reilly Reid, class of 1965 and commander of VFW Post 308, served the meal.

Florence Memorial High School Alumni first met May 25, 1896, in the Horner Hotel.

Ralph W. Smith, class of 1894, was elected the first president.

The 120th alumni banquet will be May 28.
