Flag retirement set for Thursday

Old and worn-out American flags will be retired in a ceremony Thursday in conjunction with Flag Day.

James William Miesse American Legion Post 22 of Marion will lead the ceremony at 7:30 p.m. at Marion County Park and Lake. The flags will be destroyed by burning, in accordance with the U.S. Flag Code.

The American Legion invites anyone with a faded, tattered, torn, or soiled American flag to bring them to the retirement ceremony for respectful disposal. The Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, and other organizations and individuals are also invited to attend or participate.
