Fiery chili to support fiery show

Staff writer

It might be cold in February, but five chili cooks and numerous dessert makers will warm people’s mouths for a good cause Feb. 10.

A fundraiser chili feed from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Marion County Lake hall will provide not only a bang of spicy chili but also bangs of aerials over the lake in July.

The menu will include chili and all the fixings, coffee, tea, or water, and dessert.

Chili will cost $8, but additional donations will be accepted.

Organizer Diana Finley said five different batches of chili would be cooked by volunteers.

Some live at the lake and others support the annual fireworks show because they love camping at the lake, Finley said.

“My brother likes camping here and actually wants to buy a place out here,” Finley said.

Volunteers who don’t cook chili will bring their best desserts for diners to enjoy.

This year’s chili feed is the third annual fundraiser for the third annual show.

Last year’s fireworks show cost more than $4,000, Finley said.

The fireworks show attracts so many people it’s difficult to find a place to park.

“It’s been really, really busy,” Finley said. “It’s just gotten bigger each year.”

The celebration includes a car cruise and boat parade before the fireworks.

Marion Fire Department goes to the show to take donations and to be on hand if needed.
