FESTIVE FALL WEEKEND: Chili cook-off spices up weekend at lake
More than 400 people gathered Saturday at County Lake Hall for the park and lake’s annual chili cook-off.
The event included a cornhole tournament and car, truck, and motorcycle shows.
This year’s chili competition drew 13 competitors, 24 people entered the car show, 27 teams played cornhole, and more than 400 people tasted chili and voted for the best.
Chili cook Roger Perkins won first place with his sweet and spicy chili.
Win or Lose, We Still Booze took second place with Sunflower Showdown Chili.
Busch Walkers’ Slap Yo Mama Chili took third place.
The people’s choice winner was Win or Lose, We Still Booze.
Barb and Marcy McCurdy won a competitors’ choice prize for their Happy Trails Chili.
Joe Bowman won the best-in-class car award with a 1956 Thunderbird.
Mitch Guetterman won best-in-class trucks with a 1972 GMC Jimmy.
The best-in-class motorcycle award went to Zach Hudlin with a 2011 Yamaha Stryker.
Cornhole winners were Tyler Jones and Cody Delk. Chloe Burkholder and Steve Lanham won in a random partner tournament.
A bake sale raised more than $1,000.
