Farmers' Market starts May 1

Staff writer

Marion Farmers’ Market will start May 1 from 5 to 7 p.m. in Central Park. There will be markets on Wednesday nights and Saturday mornings from 9 a.m. to noon.

Organizer Shana Thornhill is one of three regulars at the market. The other two are N.M. Patton of Peabody and Darlene Carlson of Lincolnville. Patton provides vegetables while Carlson sells vegetables, herbs, canned goods, and flowers. Thornhill also offers tips to prepare vegetables and other organic foods for meals.

“Organic food is not expensive; it’s easy to prepare,” she said.

Thornhill said the market has had vendors who sold beeswax balms and lotions and other non-food items. She is receptive to Avon dealers being a part of the market. Thornhill said she is about ready to send out letters to prospective vendors.

“We’ll take anything, anywhere,” she said.

Thornhill is planning to discuss moving the location of the Saturday market.

She wants to collaborate with Jirak Brothers Produce and sell vegetables at the same time near Liberty Park.

People interested in participating, may call Thornhill at (620) 382-2152.

“We encourage people to come visit or to just play in the park,” she said.
