“The City of Peabody will sponsor the annual fall cleanup during the week of Oct. 15,” said Stephanie Ax, deputy city clerk. “Curb side pickup will be Oct. 19 only, but there will be roll-off dumpsters available at First and Olive streets on Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday of that week.”
Dumpsters will be available from 4 to 8 p.m. Oct. 15 and 17 and from 8 to 11 a.m. Oct. 20.
Rules for curbside pickup are the same as they have been in the past. Yard waste and trimmings will not be picked up — residents need to take them to the burn pit on South Olive Street.
Construction and demolition materials will not be hauled away by the city crew or Waste Connection employees.
“Also, miscellaneous items need to be bagged, boxed, or bundled for curbside pick up,” Ax said. “Heaping everything in a pile creates more work for those picking it up. Or if we have a storm it gets scattered all over the neighborhood.”
Appliances or white goods that do not contain coolants may be set out at the curb. There is no extra charge for their removal. However, freezers, air conditioners, and refrigerators will not be removed.
“Again this year, Waste Connections will be picking up tires at the curb,” Ax said. “But only if residents contact us in advance at the city building and tell us how many tires they have to be picked up. We will give that information to Waste Connections and they will pick up that many. Residents will be billed on their next utility bill.”
A hazardous waste dropoff vehicle will be stationed at First and Vine streets from 9 to 11 a.m. Oct. 20. Residents may take cleaners, chemicals, and such to the manned vehicle for disposal.
