Experienced golfers return to greens

Staff writer

Peabody-Burns High School has a strong core group returning to the golf course for the 2011 season.

Led by four seniors, the team has six letter-winners who competed in every tournament in 2010.

Jason Wingert is a senior in his third season on the varsity team. Jacob Gillet and Trevor Foth, also seniors, are in their second year. The fourth senior, Sean Brunner, is in his first year on varsity.

Junior Matt Hiebert and sophomore Tommy Morris are the remainder of the core group with letters from the 2010 season.

Jim Pohlman is head coach again this spring for the 13-member team.

“Last year was the team’s first full year of playing on grass greens,” Pohlman said. “It was different and that adjustment added a level of nerves to their play.

“The team struggled, but I think this year will be a good one for them. Attitudes are good and that is a big hurdle,” he added.

The team will open April 5 at Herington.
