Broadcasts about these fire and ambulance calls were monitored this past week by the newspaper:

FEB. 4

10:41 a.m. — An 83- or 84-year-old woman, confused and with minor amnesia after falling and hitting her head outside Marion High School, was taken to Wesley Medical Center, Wichita, by Marion ambulance. The ambulance returned to Marion at 1:48 p.m.

1:41 p.m. — A 64-year-old man who suffered a stroke was transferred by Hillsboro ambulance from Hillsboro Community Hospital to Wesley. The ambulance returned to Hillsboro at 4:25 p.m.

4:31 p.m. — Another HCH patient was transferred by Hillsboro ambulance to Dole Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Wichita. The ambulance returned to Hillsboro at 7:22 p.m.

FEB. 5

12:23 a.m. — A 78-year-old woman who fell and hurt her head and hand at a residence in the 1100 block of Denver St. in Marion declined to be taken to a hospital by Marion ambulance.

7:21 p.m. — A 35-year-old man with respiratory failure was transferred by Marion ambulance from St. Luke to Ascension Via Christi St. Francis Hospital, Wichita.

THURSDAY

12:14 a.m. — Immediately upon returning from Wichita, Marion ambulance transferred a second patient from St. Luke to Wesley. The ambulance returned to Marion at 3:10 a.m.

8:56 a.m. — A breathing but unresponsive 12-year-old girl who may have suffered a seizure in a choir room at Hillsboro High School was taken to NMC Health, formerly Newton Medical Center, by Hillsboro ambulance. An ambulance supervisor also responded. The ambulance returned to Hillsboro at 10:56 a.m.

12:52 p.m. — A 26-year-old woman having a seizure in a room at Country Inn Motel in Marion declined to be taken to a hospital by Marion ambulance.

1:37 p.m. — A 56-year-old woman falling in and out of consciousness at Peabody Health and Rehab was taken to NMC by Hillsboro ambulance after some difficulty arranging entrance to the nursing home. The ambulance returned to Hillsboro at 3:29 p.m.

7:39 p.m. — An 81-year-old woman with respiratory failure was transferred by Marion ambulance from St. Luke to St. Francis. The ambulance returned to Marion at 10:57 p.m.

FRIDAY

2:43 a.m. — An 87-year-old woman with numbness in her legs at a farmhouse near 240th and Sunflower Rds. was taken to St. Luke by Marion ambulance.

SATURDAY

5:07 a.m. — A 23-year-old man suffering seizures at Peabody Health and Rehab declined to be taken to a hospital by Hillsboro ambulance.

8:07 a.m. — A 44-year-old man slipping in and out of consciousness at a farmhouse near 250th and Remington Rds. was taken to Wesley by Marion ambulance. The ambulance returned to Marion at 11:45 a.m.

9:34 a.m. — Hillsboro ambulance verified a reported death at a farmhouse near 130th and Indigo Rds. A coroner was dispatched.

6:32 p.m. — A 16-year-old boy was killed, and another was taken to Wesley by Marion ambulance after a pickup accident near 170th and Jade Rds. Hillsboro firefighters and ambulance also responded. Three helicopter ambulances were contacted, but the nearest was an hour away. A coroner was dispatched. Tampa ambulance stood by in Hillsboro in case of additional calls. Marion ambulance returned to Marion at 9:21 p.m. Hillsboro ambulance remained out of service until 9:38 p.m.

SUNDAY

9:09 a.m. — An 84-year-old man with a headache at a home in the 100 block of E. 9th St. in Florence was taken to NMC by Marion ambulance. The ambulance returned to Marion shortly after noon.

11:09 p.m. — Marion firefighters dealt with a sparking power line in the 300 block of S. 1st St. in Marion until city workers arrived.

MONDAY

2:25 p.m. — Hillsboro ambulance was called for an 80-year-old woman who may have fainted and fell at Dale’s Supermarket in Hillsboro, but the call was canceled before the ambulance arrived.

7:55 p.m. — Fire in a water heater in a residence in the 800 block of N. Walnut St. in Peabody was extinguished before Peabody firefighters arrived. Residents were encouraged to have an electrician check the water heater’s circuit breaker. Burns, Florence, and Hillsboro firefighters and Hillsboro ambulance also were dispatched but were told to stand down.

10:34 p.m. — A 18-year-old girl having a reaction to medication was transferred by Marion ambulance from St. Luke to McPherson Center for Health. The ambulance returned to Marion at 12:20 a.m.
