Broadcasts about these fire and ambulance calls were monitored this past week by the newspaper:

FEB. 13

12:45 a.m. — Marion ambulance was told to stand down — after twice being told to stand by — in case of injuries from a domestic disturbance in the 200 block of 8th St. in Florence.

2:34 a.m. — An uninjured 75-year-old man who fell at Westview Manor in Peabody was helped up by two Peabody firefighters. Hillsboro ambulance was dispatched as well, but the call was canceled before the ambulance arrived. Peabody ambulance also was called but did not answer.

3:19 p.m. — Hillsboro ambulance silently stood by at 100th and Indigo Rds. but was not needed as sheriff’s deputies dealt with a suicidal person.

7:12 p.m. — A 72-year-old man stepped on by a cow was transferred by Marion ambulance from St. Luke Hospital, Marion, to Wesley Medical Center, Wichita.

FEB. 14

3:46 a.m. — An uninjured 77-year-old woman stuck in a recliner at a home in the 500 block of N. Cedar St. in Marion was helped up by Marion ambulance attendants. She declined to be taken to a hospital.

8:33 a.m. — A person who fell at Homestead Senior Residences, Marion, was helped up by Marion ambulance attendants. The patient declined to be taken to a hospital.

3:35 p.m. — A 60-year-old man who said he was the same patient from the 8:33 a.m. call fell again at Homestead Senior Residences, again was helped up by Marion ambulance attendants, and again declined to be taken to a hospital.

3:59 p.m. — Immediately upon completing the call to Homestead Senior Residences, Marion ambulance was sent to St. Luke, where a patient had been waiting since the previous call to be transferred to Wesley Woodlawn Hospital, Wichita. However, Hillsboro ambulance opted to handle the call instead. The ambulance returned to Hillsboro at 7:08 p.m.

7:18 p.m. — A 76-year-old woman with knee pain was transferred by Marion ambulance from St. Luke to NMC Health, formerly Newton Medical Center. The ambulance returned to Marion at 10:03 p.m.

THURSDAY

12:06 a.m. — A 74-year-old man with abdominal obstruction was transferred by Marion ambulance from St. Luke to NMC Health.

2:06 a.m. — Still en route back from Newton, Marion ambulance was dispatched to transfer another patient from St. Luke to Ascension Via Christi St. Joseph Hospital, Wichita. The ambulance returned to Marion at 5:12 a.m.

7:35 a.m. — Tampa ambulance and a Durham first responder were dispatched for a medical alarm activated by a 95-year-old woman having trouble breathing in the 300 block of 7th St. in Durham. She was taken to Hillsboro Community Hospital.

10:16 a.m. — A 16-year-old girl suffering seizures at Goessel High School was taken to Wesley Woodlawn by Hillsboro ambulance. Goessel first responders were paged but did not answer. The ambulance returned to Hillsboro at 12:53 p.m.

10:56 a.m. — Marion ambulance responded to yet another fall at Homestead Senior Residences in Marion but this time took a patient to St. Luke.

5:29 p.m. — A man in the 300 block of Locust St. in Marion who had been involved in a fight declined to be taken to a hospital by Marion ambulance.

11:30 p.m. — A 58-year-old woman who fell at the Marion VFW Post declined to be taken to a hospital by Marion ambulance.

FRIDAY

3:54 p.m. — At her physician’s request, a 73-year-old woman was transferred by Hillsboro ambulance from Peabody Health and Rehab to Ascension Via Christi St. Francis Hospital, Wichita. The ambulance had been headed to NMC Health but was diverted to St. Francis.

5:08 p.m. — Peabody firefighters spent less than 20 minutes investigating a smoking power outlet behind a range at a residence in the 100 block of N. Maple St. in Peabody. Marion and Florence firefighters and Marion ambulance initially were dispatched as well but were told within eight minutes that they would not be needed.

6:06 p.m. — A 16-year-old girl, possibly the same one from a call the day before in Goessel, was taken to HCH by Marion ambulance after suffering a seizure in a parking lot at Sonic Drive-In in Hillsboro. With Hillsboro ambulance still returning from Wichita, Hillsboro first responders were dispatched as well.

SATURDAY

3:15 a.m. — An uninjured man in his 70s who fell at a farmhouse on 240th Rd. west of Indigo Rd. was helped up by Hillsboro ambulance attendants. He declined to be taken to a hospital.

3:24 a.m. — A recent pacemaker recipient in his 30s, bleeding from his hands and head after a traffic accident near 160th and Nighthawk Rds., was taken to HCH by Marion ambulance.

5:39 a.m. — A 34-year-old man with a collapsed lung was transferred by Hillsboro ambulance from HCH to Wesley. The ambulance returned to Hillsboro at 8:04 a.m.

11:05 a.m. — Before Marion firefighters arrived, a fire alarm at a home on Narrow Rd. in Canada was determined by an alarm company to be a false alarm.

8:16 p.m. — Peabody firefighters were dispatched to the 600 block of W. 3rd St. in Peabody to help a man get back into his home.

SUNDAY

4:01 a.m. — A 26-year-old pregnant woman with abdominal pain was transferred by Marion ambulance from St. Luke to Salina Regional Medical Center for a follow-up appointment with her obstetrician. The ambulance returned to Marion at 6:54 a.m.

9:10 a.m. — A 26-year-old woman who gave birth earlier in the week and appeared to be suffering a seizure at a farm near 260th Rd. and K-15 was taken on an emergency basis to Wesley by Hillsboro ambulance. The ambulance was diverted there from NMC Health. It returned to Hillsboro at 11:34 a.m.

10:59 a.m. — With Peabody ambulance not available and Hillsboro ambulance still in the Wichita area, Marion ambulance was dispatched for a 65-year-old man who fell and may have fractured a hip at Westview Manor in Peabody was taken to NMC Health by Marion ambulance. Tampa ambulance was dispatched to stand by in Canada for half an hour in case of additional calls. Marion ambulance returned to Marion at 1:09 p.m.

3:45 p.m. — A Westview patient earlier transferred to NMC was returned to Westview by Hillsboro ambulance. The ambulance returned to Hillsboro at 5:38 p.m.

6:41 p.m. — A 60-year-old man with low blood pressure was transferred by Marion ambulance from St. Luke to St. Francis. The ambulance returned to Marion at 9:39 p.m.

MONDAY

Noon — An 85-year-old man who fell and hit his head in an alley between the 100 blocks of N. Main and N. Ash Sts. in Hillsboro was taken to HCH by Hillsboro ambulance.

9:46 p.m. — A 62-year-old man with an elevated level of protein indicating cardiac damage was transferred by Hillsboro ambulance from HCH to Kansas Heart Hospital, Wichita. The ambulance returned to Hillsboro at 11:55 p.m.
