Broadcasts about these fire and ambulance calls were monitored this past week by the newspaper:

OCT. 17

12:37 a.m. — A 92-year-old man who fell at a residence on 275th Rd. in Pilsen declined to be taken to a hospital by Marion ambulance. Lincolnville first responders also answered the call.

6:23 a.m. — An unresponsive woman at a home on Kruse Dr. at Eastshore was pronounced dead after medics from Marion and Hillsboro ambulances failed to revive her.

8:55 a.m. — A 54-year-old man at a home in the 500 block of N. Peabody St. was taken to St. Luke Hospital, Marion, by Hillsboro ambulance. A Peabody ambulance attendant also responded to the call.

12:33 p.m. — A two-alarm pasture fire at 240th and Bluestem Rds. was extinguished in a little more than an hour by Marion and Lincolnville firefighters.

1:38 p.m. — An unconscious 26-year-old man having a seizure at Wendy’s in Hillsboro was taken to Hillsboro Community Hospital by Hillsboro ambulance.

4:22 p.m. — A 32-year-old man drifting in and out of consciousness at a residence in the 400 block of S. Freeborn St. in Marion declined to be taken to a hospital by Marion ambulance. Hillsboro ambulance also responded but was called off before it arrived.

5:47 p.m. — An 80-year-old man unable to get out of a chair after a fall earlier in the day at a farmhouse near 100th and Alamo Rds. was taken to Mercy Hospital, Moundridge, by Hillsboro ambulance. Goessel first responders provided initial care. The ambulance returned to Hillsboro at 7:34 p.m.

OCT. 18

10:31 p.m. — A woman with breathing issues, losing consciousness at a home in the 200 block of Kansas St. in Lincolnville declined to be taken to a hospital by Marion ambulance. Lincolnville first responders were first on the scene.

THURSDAY

11:31 a.m. — An alarm company’s report of a fire alarm at a non-existent address on K-15 was determined by Goessel firefighters to be a false alarm, apparently at Alexanderwohl Mennonite Church.

2:23 p.m. — A 23-year-old woman vomiting blood at a farm near 150th and Eagle Rds. after reportedly releasing herself from a hospital was taken to NMC Health, formerly Newton Medical Center, by Hillsboro ambulance. Goessel first responders provided initial care. The ambulance returned to Hillsboro at 3:50 p.m.

FRIDAY

10:55 a.m. — A grass fire reported near 190th and Pawnee Rds. was determined by Marion firefighters to have been a resident’s unauthorized trash fire. The call interrupted a demonstration at Marion Elementary School.

7:31 p.m. — Peabody ambulance, standing by during a football game at City Park, took a patient with undisclosed symptoms to NMC Health. Ambulance attendants originally asked for a Hillsboro paramedic to meet them at Indigo Rd. and US-50, but that request was canceled.

SATURDAY

12:30 p.m. — A 57-year-old man, bleeding after falling and hitting his head at Peabody Health and Rehab, was taken to NMC Health by Hillsboro ambulance. A first responder aboard Peabody ambulance provided initial care. Marion ambulance replaced Hillsboro ambulance on standby at a Tabor College football game until 2:15 p.m.

2:37 p.m. — A slow-moving, half-acre grass fire near 190th and Mustang Rds. produced smoke that disrupted traffic on 190th Rd. The fire was extinguished in less than 30 minutes by Marion firefighters.

10:54 p.m. — An alarm indicating a kitchen fire at Westview Manor in Peabody was determined by Peabody firefighters to be a false alarm.

SUNDAY

12:56 a.m. — A 72-year-old woman experiencing weakness at a farmhouse near 280th and Yarrow Rds. was taken to St. Luke by Marion ambulance. Lincolnville first responders provided initial care.

7:18 a.m. — A 92-year-old man with trouble breathing at a home on 275th Rd. in Pilsen was taken to St. Luke by Marion ambulance. Lincolnville first responders also were dispatched.

4:11 p.m. — A 64-year-old man who fainted twice at a farmhouse near 140th Rd. and K-15 was taken on a non-emergency basis to Ascension Via Christi St. Francis Hospital, Wichita, by Hillsboro ambulance. Goessel first responders provided initial care. The ambulance returned to Hillsboro at 6:30 p.m.

5:51 p.m. — A 91-year-old woman who fell at Sunflower Apartments in Goessel was taken to NMC Health by Marion ambulance, filling in for Hillsboro ambulance. Goessel first responders provided initial care. The ambulance returned to Marion at 7:52 p.m.

9:12 p.m. — A man experiencing weakness at a residence in the 800 block of N. Walnut St. in Peabody declined to be taken to a hospital by Peabody ambulance. Hillsboro ambulance initially was dispatched, but medics opted not to continue on the call.

MONDAY

2:06 a.m. — A 54-year-old man complaining of stomach pain and vomiting in the 200 block of N. 1st St. in Marion was taken to St. Luke by Marion ambulance.

5:22 a.m. — An 81-year-old woman with high blood sugar and a malfunctioning insulin pump at an apartment on Victory Ln. in Marion was taken to St. Luke by Marion ambulance. Hillsboro ambulance also was paged after Marion ambulance was delayed in answering an initial page.

8:12 a.m. — A Peabody firefighter who received an apparently inadvertently relayed cell phone alert to a grass fire attempted to respond but was told there was no current fire.

9:03 a.m. — What appeared to be the same patient from Victory Ln., now diagnosed as also suffering from sepsis, was transferred by Marion ambulance from St. Luke to NMC Health. The ambulance returned to Marion at 11:30 a.m.

2:23 p.m. — With Peabody ambulance unavailable, a 65-year-old female worker who fell and injured her left side at Westview Manor in Peabody was given fentanyl and taken to St. Luke by Hillsboro ambulance.

3:30 p.m. — A 49-year-old man with trouble breathing in the 600 block of S. Washington St. in Hillsboro was tended to by a Hillsboro first responder until Hillsboro ambulance could return from Marion and take the patient to HCH. Marion ambulance was not available because it was waiting to make a transfer from St. Luke to Wichita.

4:39 p.m. — Marion ambulance transferred a St. Luke patient to Wesley Medical Center, Wichita. The ambulance returned to Marion at 7:24 p.m.

5:40 p.m. — With Marion ambulance en route to Wichita, Hillsboro ambulance was dispatched to take a 48-year-old woman who was feeling dizzy and unable to swallow to St. Luke from a residence in the 100 block of W. 4th St. in Florence. Florence first responders were paged but did not answer.

7:14 p.m. — With Marion ambulance still not back from Wichita, Tampa ambulance was dispatched to St. Luke to transfer a patient to Wesley. The ambulance returned to Tampa at 11:34 p.m.
