Broadcasts about these fire and ambulance calls were monitored this past week by the newspaper:

OCT. 10

12:25 a.m. — A 65-year-old woman who fell on the ground and hurt her leg in the 100 block of N. Roosevelt St. in Marion declined to be taken to a hospital by Marion ambulance. Marion firefighters were paged to help lift the woman.

9:33 a.m. — An 89-year-old woman who became dizzy and fell from a chair at Marion Assisted Living was taken to St. Luke Hospital, Marion, by Marion ambulance.

12:08 p.m. — An elderly woman who became dizzy and fell at Burns Community Center was taken to Susan B. Allen Memorial Hospital, El Dorado, by Peabody ambulance. Burns first responders provided initial care. The ambulance returned to Peabody at 2:12 p.m.

OCT. 11

11:43 a.m. — A 44-year-old woman who developed diabetic problems while driving on K-15 south of 300th Rd. declined to be taken to a hospital by Tampa ambulance.

1:28 p.m. — A swather fire near US-50 and Alfalfa Rd. was quickly extinguished by Florence firefighters.

2:20 p.m. — A pregnant woman who went to the Peabody police office after a traffic accident on US-50 was evaluated by an emergency medical technician aboard Peabody ambulance. She declined to be taken to a hospital by ambulance, preferring to go by private vehicle. Hillsboro ambulance initially was dispatched was well, but that call was canceled.

THURSDAY

1:46 a.m. — A woman with stabbing stomach pain at a farmhouse near K-15 and 300th Rd. was taken to Hillsboro Community Hospital by Tampa ambulance. A Durham first responder provided initial care.

6:05 a.m. — An 87-year-old man having trouble speaking between breaths at a residence in the 100 block of N. Cedar St. in Marion was taken to St. Luke by Marion ambulance. Hillsboro ambulance was called after Marion ambulance’s stretcher would not function properly, but the call was canceled seconds before Hillsboro ambulance arrived.

6:41 a.m. — Still in Marion, Hillsboro ambulance was dispatched to a medical alert on behalf of an 85-year-old woman who had fallen at Homestead Senior Residence, Marion, and could not get up. She declined to be taken to a hospital.

8:43 a.m. — A downed electric wire and smoking transformer near Lawrence and Coble Sts. in Marion caused a power failure in portions of Marion and was watched over by Marion firefighters for 15 minutes until a city crew could take over.

7:13 p.m. — A silage file near 330th and Timber Rds. was extinguished within 45 minutes by Lost Springs firefighters.

11:30 p.m. — A 72-year-old man having trouble breathing at a home on Schlotthauer Dr. at Eastshore was taken to St. Luke by Marion ambulance.

FRIDAY

4:09 a.m. — Marion ambulance was called to St. Luke to help with a patient in respiratory distress. Ambulance attendants left at 5:40 a.m. but were immediately summoned back to transfer the patient to Wesley.

6:37 a.m. — A 72-year-old man not awake but breathing at a farmhouse near 230th and Kanza Rds. declined to be taken to a hospital by Hillsboro ambulance.

8:47 a.m. — An 80-year-old man not awake but breathing at Pop’s Diner in Peabody declined to be taken to a hospital by Peabody ambulance, preferring to go by private vehicle. Hillsboro ambulance was dispatched, as well, but the call was canceled before the ambulance arrived.

11:04 a.m. — Two people involved in a one-vehicle accident at K-15 and 180th Rd. were checked by Hillsboro ambulance attendants. One of them was taken to HCH. Hillsboro firefighters and rescue squad members were dispatched even though the victims were out of their vehicle and walking around. A utility pole was damaged in the accident. Marion ambulance was dispatched as well, but the call was canceled before the ambulance arrived.

3:51 p.m. — Firefighters from Peabody, Burns, Florence, and Marion and a task force of firefighters from Goessel, Hillsboro, Durham, Lincolnville, and Ramona spent nearly three hours battling a fast-moving, three-alarm grass fire at Timber and 60th Rds. Peabody ambulance also responded.

4:55 p.m. — A 63-year-old woman with trouble breathing at a residence in the 200 block of Kansas St. in Lincolnville was taken by Marion ambulance on an emergency basis to NMC Health, formerly Newton Medical Center. Hillsboro ambulance initially responded as well, but the call was canceled before the ambulance arrived.

6:54 p.m. — A 98-year-old woman who fell and hurt her ribs and shoulder at Parkside Homes assisted living was taken to HCH by Hillsboro ambulance.

7:59 p.m. — After returning to Marion and awaiting the arrival of a replacement crew member, Marion ambulance transferred a St. Luke patient to Wesley. The ambulance returned to Marion at 10:34 p.m.

10:54 p.m. — A 99-year-old woman vomiting, trembling, and appearing unwell at Salem Home in Hillsboro was taken to HCH by Hillsboro ambulance.

SATURDAY

5:26 a.m. — Peabody ambulance was called to Peabody Health and Rehab to transfer a 65-year-old man needing a mental health evaluation, but the assignment was given instead to a law enforcement officer.

7 a.m. — An unconscious 32-year-old man with abnormal breathing and a history of drug overdoses was taken to HCH by Hillsboro ambulance from the 300 block of W. B St. in Hillsboro

2:29 p.m. — A 79-year-old man with a liver abscess was transferred by Hillsboro ambulance from HCH to Wesley. The ambulance returned to Hillsboro at 5:32 p.m.

3:14 p.m. — A 73-year-old man having chest pains and trouble breathing at a farmhouse near 130th and Goldenrod Rds. was taken by Marion ambulance on an emergency basis to Ascension Via Christi St. Francis Hospital in Wichita. A Hillsboro first responder provided initial care. Peabody ambulance also responded. Tampa ambulance was instructed to stand by in Canada until Hillsboro ambulance returned in case of additional calls. Marion ambulance returned to Marion at 5:57 p.m.

10:20 p.m. — Hillsboro firefighters were dispatched to check a minor leak from natural gas meter outside a residence in the 300 block of S. Kennedy St. in Hillsboro.

SUNDAY

12:16 a.m. — A 76-year-old man who fell at a farmhouse near 240th and Indigo Rds. was helped up by Hillsboro ambulance attendants but declined to be taken to a hospital. Hillsboro firefighters also were dispatched but were not needed.

10:02 a.m. — A female patient was transferred by Hillsboro ambulance from HCH to Ascension Via Christi St. Teresa Hospital, Wichita. The ambulance returned to Hillsboro at 1:08 p.m.

3:15 p.m. — A 71-year-old woman, dizzy and having trouble breathing at a residence in the 200 block of W. 10th St. in Florence, was taken to St. Luke by Marion ambulance. Florence first responders were paged but did not answer.

4:53 p.m. — An 88-year-old man who fell outside a home in the 300 block of W. Arbor Ct. in Hillsboro declined to be taken to a hospital by Hillsboro ambulance.

6:42 p.m. — Hillsboro ambulance responded to a medical alarm about a fall by a 68-year-old woman at Indian Guide Terrace apartments in Peabody. Attendants helped lift the woman, who declined to be taken to a hospital.

8:09 p.m. — A 5-month-old baby struck in the head by an out-of-control juvenile at a Main Street Ministries apartment in Hillsboro was checked by Hillsboro ambulance attendants, who reported that the baby would be taken to a hospital by a private vehicle.

9:52 p.m. — An overcooked grilled cheese sandwich was blamed for setting off a fire alarm at Jost Hall on the Tabor College campus. Hillsboro firefighters reset the alarm.

10:56 p.m. — A 71-year-old woman with possible gall bladder blockage was transferred by Marion ambulance from St. Luke to St. Francis.

MONDAY

1:47 a.m. — En route back from Wichita, Marion ambulance was diverted to the 300 block of N. Ohio St. in Burns, where a 2-year-old boy with asthma was having trouble breathing. He was taken to Susan B. Allen Memorial. The ambulance returned to Marion at 4:04 a.m.
