Broadcasts about these fire and ambulance calls were monitored this past week by the newspaper:

JULY 25

12:19 p.m. — A 71-year-old man who fell near 210th and Remington Rd. was helped up but declined to be taken to a hospital by Marion ambulance.

2:02 p.m. — A 92-year-old woman suffering from vomiting and dehydration at Parkside Homes was taken to Hillsboro Community Hospital by Hillsboro ambulance.

5:32 p.m. — A man whose female companion pulled over on K-15 near 80th Rd. when he become unresponsive and had trouble breathing after seven hours of bleeding from his nose was taken to NMC Health, formerly Newton Medical Center, by Hillsboro ambulance. The county ambulance director was the first to respond. Goessel first responders were paged but did not answer. The ambulance returned to Hillsboro at 9:04 p.m., stopping first in Marion for supplies.

11:46 p.m. — An 82-year-old woman not feeling well at a home in the 700 block of Grand Ave. in Hillsboro was taken to St. Luke Hospital, Marion, by Hillsboro ambulance.

JULY 26

10:23 a.m. — At the request of a home health nurse, a 57-year-old man, weak and with high blood pressure, was taken by Hillsboro ambulance to HCH from Oakwood Manor apartments in Hillsboro.

3:23 p.m. — A 27-year-old son whose hand was cut by glass during a domestic dispute in the 100 block of N. Lincoln St. in Marion declined to be taken to a hospital by Marion ambulance.

4:52 p.m. — After his father was arrested in connection with the domestic dispute, the 27-year-old called back with chest pains but again declined to be taken to a hospital.

7:26 p.m. — A carbon monoxide alarm at a condominium in the 200 block of S. Ash St. in Hillsboro was determined by Hillsboro firefighters to have been caused by a malfunctioning detector.

THURSDAY

1:19 a.m. — A 28-year-old woman with leg pain after a fall several weeks ago was taken to HCH by Hillsboro ambulance from the 300 block of N. Ash St. in Hillsboro.

8:26 a.m. — A 64-year-old woman with chest pains at a rental home in the 100 block of N. Cedar St. in Marion was taken to St. Luke by Marion ambulance.

1:16 p.m. — At the request of a sheriff’s deputy, Peabody ambulance was assigned to take a woman needing assistance with a colostomy bag to NMC Health from the 800 block of N. Poplar St. in Peabody. When the ambulance arrived, however, she declined assistance and said she did not wish to be taken to a hospital.

5:11 p.m. — A 67-year-old woman with low sodium was transferred by Hillsboro ambulance from HCH to Wesley Medical Center, Wichita. The ambulance returned to Hillsboro at 7:34 p.m.

5:24 p.m. — With Hillsboro ambulance on another call, Marion ambulance was dispatched for a juvenile who hit his head on a concrete wall at Prairie View mental health center in Hillsboro, but the patient declined to be taken to a hospital.

6:13 p.m. — No sooner had Marion ambulance returned to Marion than it was assigned to another call in Hillsboro. A 64-year-old woman feeling sick and in pain in the 100 block of S. Wilson St. was taken to HCH. The ambulance returned to Marion at 7:17 p.m.

6:17 p.m. — With Marion and Hillsboro ambulances busy, Peabody ambulance was sent to Parkside Homes in Hillsboro for an 85-year-old woman who was having trouble communicating. She was taken to HCH. The ambulance returned to Peabody at 7:25 p.m.

FRIDAY

3:58 p.m. — A mother reported that her 1-year-old girl was screaming uncontrollably at a rental home the 200 block of W. 5th St. in Florence. The mother declined to have the baby taken to a hospital by Marion ambulance. Florence first responders were paged but did not answer.

4:47 p.m. — A 17-year-old girl who passed out, possibly from heat exhaustion, at dedication ceremonies for Tabor College’s Jost Hall dormitory declined to be taken to a hospital by Hillsboro ambulance.

6:29 p.m. — An increasingly unresponsive 56-year-old man, having what he thought was a heart attack, pulled over on US-56 near K-168 south of Lehigh. He was taken in critical condition to HCH by Hillsboro ambulance for rendezvous with a helicopter ambulance. A sheriff’s deputy was sent to take charge of a dog in the patient’s pickup.

8:19 p.m. — A 31-year-old man who developed stomach pain and pulled his truck over in the 800 block of W. 5th St. in Florence was taken to St. Luke by Marion ambulance. Florence first responders were paged but did not answer.

SATURDAY

9:21 a.m. — A 16-year-old girl who may have suffered a seizure in the 200 block of N. Jefferson St. in Hillsboro was taken to HCH by Hillsboro ambulance.

10:06 a.m. — An unconscious, barely breathing 42-year-old man, known to be a severe alcoholic, was taken by Marion ambulance to Ascension Via Christi St. Francis Hospital, Wichita, from the 300 block of N. Elm St. in Burns. Initial care was provided by Burns first responders. Peabody and Hillsboro ambulances also were called but later told to stand down. Marion ambulance returned to Marion at 1:10 p.m.

3:03 p.m. — Fire in hay being hauled by a semi-trailer truck on US-77 near Wagon Wheel Rd. was extinguished in less than an hour by Florence firefighters.

8:23 p.m. — A 64-year-old man with a high fever after shoulder replacement surgery was taken to St. Luke by Peabody ambulance from the 600 block of W. Marion St. in Burns. Ambulance attendants requested that Burns first responders also be paged. They provided care until the ambulance arrived.

9:38 p.m. — An 88-year-old man who fell while showering at Parkside Homes was taken to HCH by Hillsboro ambulance.

SUNDAY

12:04 p.m. — A man complaining of leg pain outside Oakwood Manor apartments in Hillsboro was taken to HCH by Hillsboro ambulance.

11:06 p.m. — An 86-year-old woman who fell at a farmhouse near Pawnee and 100th Rds. declined to be taken to a hospital by Peabody ambulance.

MONDAY
