Broadcasts about these fire and ambulance calls were monitored this past week by the newspaper:

JUNE 6

2:13 p.m. — A 78-year-old woman in the midst of suffering a heart attack was transferred by Marion ambulance on an emergency basis from St. Luke Hospital, Marion, to Wesley Medical Center, Wichita. The ambulance returned to Marion at 5:21 p.m.

JUNE 7

2:02 a.m. — A 31-year-old woman who may have suffered a heart attack was transferred by Marion ambulance from St. Luke to Wesley. The ambulance returned to Marion at 5 a.m.

8:40 a.m. — A 79-year-old woman with diabetic issues at a Marion County Lake residence near Lakeshore Dr. and Back Bay Ct. was taken to St. Luke by Marion ambulance.

THURSDAY

4:27 a.m. — A 66-year-old man with facial injuries who said he was beaten up by an acquaintance who broke into his residence in the 100 block of N. Lincoln St. in Hillsboro was taken to Hillsboro Community Hospital by Hillsboro ambulance.

8:44 a.m. — Hillsboro firefighters briefly were alerted to a false fire alarm at a Tabor College residence hall in the 300 block of S. Adams St.

1:36 p.m. — With Marion ambulance out of service for maintenance, Hillsboro ambulance was sent to the 1400 block of E. Denver St. in Marion to help a reportedly uninjured 73-year-old woman who fell from her wheelchair. The county ambulance director also responded to the call. Although initially reported to be uninjured, the woman was taken to St. Luke an hour after the call.

2:24 p.m. — At a Peabody police officer’s request and with approval from the county ambulance director, the county’s backup ambulance, staffed by the repair-idled crew of Marion ambulance, was dispatched to help lift an uninjured person in the 300 block of N. Vine St. in Peabody. The ambulance director started to respond as well but was told by dispatchers that the Peabody police officer had contacted a firefighter to help lift the person and that the ambulance and the ambulance director would not be needed.

8:12 p.m. — A 73-year-old woman with cardiac issues was transferred by the backup ambulance from St. Luke to Wesley. The ambulance returned to Marion at 11:19 p.m.

9:02 p.m. — With Marion ambulance traveling to Wichita, Hillsboro ambulance was dispatched to the 300 block of S. Coble St. in Marion where a 78-year-old woman fell. The address initially was misreported as being at Marion Manufacturing. Before the ambulance arrived, dispatchers reported that a caller had managed to help the woman up and would take her to a hospital himself, so the ambulance was not needed.

10:27 p.m. — A 60-year-old man on blood thinners who had been drinking lost his balance, fell, and injured his elbows and head at Oakwood Manor apartments in Hillsboro. He was taken to HCH by Hillsboro ambulance.

11:13 p.m. — Fire in a camper truck carrying a propane tank five miles south of Florence on US-77 was extinguished within 20 minutes by Florence and Burns firefighters. They remained for almost an hour to control traffic.

FRIDAY

7:12 a.m. — A 75-year-old woman with heart and lung issues was transferred by the backup ambulance from St. Luke to NMC Health, formerly Newton Medical Center. The ambulance returned to Marion at 9:15 a.m.

10:19 a.m. — An 86-year-old man with chest pains at Peabody Health and Rehab was taken to HCH by Hillsboro ambulance.

1:09 p.m. — Although the call originally went to Hillsboro ambulance, the backup ambulance transferring from HCH to Hutchinson Regional Medical Center a 40-year-old man requiring a higher level of care. The ambulance returned at 4:02 p.m. but not to Marion but to Hillsboro, to drop off the backup ambulance and pick up the regular Marion ambulance, which arrived back in Marion at 4:30 p.m.

2:35 p.m. — Because the backup ambulance stationed in Marion still was on its call to Hutchinson, Hillsboro ambulance attendants informed dispatchers that they would handle a call a little more than five miles north of Marion on US-56/77 where a 20-year-old woman had pulled over after becoming dizzy while driving. Lincolnville first responders also were dispatched, and the ambulance director responded as well. He arrived first and told the other units to stand down after the woman declined to be taken to a hospital.

5:04 p.m. — Peabody firefighters shut off natural gas to a meter struck by a vehicle in the 900 block of N. Locust St. in Peabody.

5:24 p.m. — An 80-year-old woman with cardiac issues was transferred by Marion ambulance from St. Luke to Wesley. The ambulance returned to Marion at 8:43 p.m.

9:57 p.m. — A man shaken up in a traffic accident at 180th and Sunset Rds. declined to be taken to a hospital by Marion ambulance.

SATURDAY

11:44 p.m. — Fire that began when tree limbs fell into power lines in an alley in the 300 block of N. Cedar St. in Marion was quickly extinguished by Marion firefighters, who remained for more than an hour to help city electric crews.

SUNDAY

11:21 a.m. — A 79-year-old man who fell after exiting a vehicle on 240th Rd. west of US-56/77 declined to be taken to a hospital by Marion ambulance. Lincolnville first responders also answered the call.

MONDAY

8:58 a.m. — A 75-year-old man with trouble breathing in the 200 block of W. 11th St. in Florence was taken to NMC Health by Marion ambulance. The ambulance director also responded to the call. Florence first responders were paged but did not answer. The ambulance returned to Marion at 11:22 a.m.

9:56 a.m. — A 78-year-old woman with nerve pain in the 500 block of N. Topeka St. in Lincolnville was taken to St. Luke by Tampa ambulance. Lincolnville first responders and the ambulance director evaluated the patient before the ambulance arrived at 10:21 a.m.

3:23 p.m. — An 87-year-old man who fell and hit his head at Parkside Homes assisted living in Hillsboro was taken to HCH by Hillsboro ambulance.

4:36 p.m. — A 78-year-old woman requiring intravenous fluids was transferred by Hillsboro ambulance from Parkside Homes assisted living to HCH.
