DISPATCHES

Broadcasts about these fire and ambulance calls were monitored this past week by the newspaper:

NOV. 22

8:53 a.m. — A 79-year-old man not feeling well in the 400 block of S. Roosevelt St. in Marion declined to be taken to a hospital by Marion ambulance.

7:10 p.m. — A patient at St. Luke Hospital, Marion, was transferred by air ambulance to Menorah Medical Center, Overland Park.

NOV. 23

12:55 p.m. — A partially unresponsive 90-year-old man at Parkside Homes in Hillsboro was taken by Hillsboro ambulance to Hillsboro Community Hospital.

9:10 p.m. — A possibly septic 10-month-old girl was transferred by Hillsboro ambulance from HCH to Wesley Medical Center, Wichita. The ambulance returned to Hillsboro at 11:33 p.m.

THURSDAY

1:49 p.m. — An 80-year-old woman with knee, hip, and shoulder pain and lying on the floor after falling in her kitchen in the 100 block of E. 9th St. in Florence declined to be taken to a hospital by Marion ambulance. The call came in from an alarm company. Florence first responders were paged but did not answer.

6:09 p.m. — Marion ambulance was called back to the same location in Florence, again at the request of an alarm company, after what appeared to be the same 80-year-old woman fell in her bathroom, suffered hip and neck pain, and was unable to get up. She again declined to be taken to a hospital. Florence first responders again were paged but did not answer.

FRIDAY

7:12 a.m. — A elderly woman with hip pain after falling in a bathroom at Hilltop Manor apartments in Marion was taken to NMC Health, Newton, by Marion ambulance. The ambulance returned to Marion at 9:26 a.m.

7:22 a.m. — An 88-year-old man with non-reactive pupils after falling and cutting his head at Peabody Health and Rehab in Peabody was taken to Wesley by Peabody ambulance. The ambulance initially was destined for NMC but was diverted. Hillsboro ambulance also was dispatched but canceled after it was determined that Peabody ambulance was fully staffed. The ambulance returned to Peabody at 9:26 a.m.

1:27 p.m. — A tractor on fire in a field south of 60th and Wagonwheel Rds. was extinguished by Burns firefighters, who remained on the scene for more than an hour.

1:35 p.m. — Victims of a two-vehicle accident at US-56 and K-256 were extricated by Marion and Hillsboro rescue squad members.

A 58-year-old woman was taken to St. Luke by Marion ambulance then transferred at 4:42 p.m. by helicopter ambulance to Wesley.

A 19-year-old woman who later died of her injuries was taken directly to Wesley by Hillsboro ambulance, accompanied by a technician from Peabody ambulance, which also was called to the accident.

Two other victims — an 84-year-old woman and a 52-year-old woman — were dead at the scene.

Hillsboro ambulance was back in its quarters at 4:13 p.m. Firefighters and rescue squad members remained at the scene until 4:15 p.m.

6:16 p.m. — A 78-year-old man responding only to painful stimuli was transferred by Hillsboro ambulance to HCH from Parkside Homes.

10:40 p.m. — What appeared to be the same patient was transferred by Hillsboro ambulance to Ascension Via Christi St. Francis Hospital, Wichita. The ambulance returned to Hillsboro at 1:29 a.m.

SATURDAY

5:47 p.m. — Two people injured in an accident at K-15 and 130th Rd. declined to be taken to a hospital by Hillsboro ambulance after initial examination by a Goessel first responder. Goessel firefighters and rescue squad, Hillsboro rescue squad, and Marion ambulance were dispatched as well, and Tampa ambulance was told to stand by at Canada, but all except Hillsboro ambulance and Goessel first responders were called off after sheriff’s deputies reached the scene.

11:25 p.m. — Marion and Hillsboro ambulances, Marion fire fighters, a helicopter ambulance, and Marion rescue squad all were dispatched to what turned out to be a fatal ATV accident east of the dam at Marion County Lake.

SUNDAY

9:59 a.m. — A 53-year-old man dizzy after falling and splitting his lip while using a bathroom in the 300 block of E. 1st St. in Hillsboro was taken to HCH by Hillsboro ambulance.

5:39 p.m. — A 44-year-old woman with a high fever and headache in the 300 block of N. Lincoln St. in Hillsboro declined to be taken to a hospital by Hillsboro ambulance.

MONDAY

11:27 a.m. — Hillsboro ambulance, firefighters, and rescue squad were dispatched to a traffic accident at 160th and Kanza Rds., but no one was entrapped, there was no fire, and no one was taken to a hospital.

5:51 p.m. — A dehydrated 66-year-old woman with a history of cancer was taken to HCH by Hillsboro ambulance from a residence near 180th and Falcon Rd.

6:06 p.m. — Marion ambulance returned to the Florence address where it was sent twice on Thursday. An alarm company reported that an 80-year-old woman had fallen. For a third time, Florence first responders were paged but did not answer, and the patient declined to be taken to a hospital.
