Broadcasts about these fire and ambulance calls were monitored this past week by the newspaper:

OCT. 4

5:37 a.m. — A suspected drunken driver arrested in the MB Foundation parking lot in the 400 block of S. Washington St. in Hillsboro was taken to the Hillsboro ambulance station for a blood draw by ambulance attendants.

3:35 p.m. — A lethargic 65-year-old woman diagnosed with a brain tumor was taken on a physician’s orders from a farmhouse near 110th and Alamo Rds. to NMC Health, Newton, by Hillsboro ambulance. A first responder from Goessel assisted.

10:30 p.m. — A smoke alarm at Tabor College townhouses in the 400 block of S. Jefferson St. in Hillsboro was quickly determined by Hillsboro firefighters to have been a false alarm.

OCT. 5

12:38 a.m. — A diabetic 51-year-old man with low blood sugar at a residence in the 200 block of Circle Dr. in Florence declined to be treated or taken to a hospital by Marion ambulance.

10:58 a.m. — An uninjured 81-year-old woman who fell at a residence in the 400 block of S. Coble St. in Marion declined to be taken to a hospital by Marion ambulance.

2:02 p.m. — A Hillsboro Community Hospital patient was transferred to Salina Regional Health Center by Hillsboro ambulance, which returned to Hillsboro at 4:52 p.m.

2:29 p.m. — An uninjured 73-year-old woman who fell at Grand Oaks Apartments in Hillsboro declined to be taken to a hospital by Marion ambulance. First responders from Hillsboro also were dispatched.

THURSDAY

3:11 a.m. — An 87-year-old man with abdominal pain at Parkside Homes in Hillsboro was transferred to HCH by Hillsboro ambulance.

8:17 a.m. — A weak 78-year-old woman diagnosed with stomach cancer was taken from the 200 block of N. 2nd St. in Marion to NMC on a non-emergency basis by Marion ambulance. The ambulance returned to Marion at 10:17 a.m. Marion firefighters helped lift the patient. Hillsboro ambulance attendants initially offered to help but were not needed.

11:58 a.m. — A surgical patient was transferred from HCH to McPherson Center for Health by Marion ambulance, which replaced Hillsboro ambulance on the call because advanced life support was not necessary. The ambulance returned to Marion at 1:57 p.m.

3:34 p.m. — Although Hillsboro, Marion, and Tampa ambulances all were called to a two-vehicle accident at US-56/K-15 and Falcon Rd. and at least one ambulance remained on the scene for a potential patient’s parent to arrive, no patients were taken to a hospital. Hillsboro firefighters and rescue squad members also were called but reported no entrapment.

5:05 p.m. — Hillsboro ambulance stood by until 8:12 p.m. during a football game at Joel Wiens Stadium in Hillsboro.

5:27 p.m. — Peabody ambulance stood by until 6:57 p.m. during a football game at Peabody’s City Park.

5:48 p.m. — Marion ambulance stood until 7:23 p.m. by during a football game at Marion Stadium.

FRIDAY

7:27 a.m. — A possibly septic 57-year-old woman was transferred from Peabody Health and Rehab to NMC by Hillsboro ambulance. The ambulance returned to Hillsboro at 9:16 a.m.

4:58 p.m. — What was reported as smoke and a possible leak from a gas meter in the 300 block of E. 7th St. in Peabody was determined by Peabody firefighters to be a cigarette discarded in grass.

5:33 p.m. — Tampa ambulance stood by until 7:25 p.m. during a football game at Centre High School.

6:49 a.m. — Marion ambulance stood by until 9:04 p.m. during a football game at Marion Stadium.

10:09 p.m. — A combative prisoner who had been taken to county jail was evaluated at the jail by Marion ambulance attendants.

SATURDAY

3:07 p.m. — Florence, Marion, and Peabody firefighters responded to an alarm company’s report of a smoke detector being activated at a house in the 100 block of W. 6th St. in Florence. However, the first firefighters on the scene determined that the residents were merely changing batteries in the detector.

4:23 p.m. — At a physician’s request, Marion ambulance attendants provided unspecified assistance at St. Luke Hospital. An hour later, the ambulance reported that it was taking a patient on a non-emergency basis to McPherson Center for Health. The ambulance returned to its quarters at 7:21 p.m.

8:03 p.m. — On a physician’s request, a male cardiac patient at Parkside Homes in Hillsboro was transferred to HCH by Hillsboro ambulance.

SUNDAY

2:07 p.m. — Peabody firefighters stood by for three hours during a controlled burn in the 500 block of W. 9th St. in Peabody.

7:46 p.m. — Hillsboro ambulance initially was paged, but a 61-year-old man with cardiac issues ended up being transferred by Marion ambulance from HCH to Kansas Heart Hospital, Wichita.

MONDAY

11:30 a.m. — A 68-year-old woman with possible symptoms of a stroke at a farmhouse on 90th Rd. between Eagle and Falcon Rds. resulted in a call to Hillsboro ambulance. Assistance from Peabody ambulance was requested after attendants were unable to remove a cot. However, the call to Peabody ambulance was canceled after the patient declined to be taken to a hospital. First responders from Goessel were paged but did not answer.

4:37 p.m. — A 70-year-old man with neurological issues was transferred by the county’s backup ambulance based in Hillsboro from HCH to Ascension Via Christi St. Francis Hospital, Wichita. The ambulance returned to Hillsboro at 7:01 p.m.

5:42 p.m. — In place of Hillsboro ambulance, Marion ambulance stood by for a football game at Joel Wiens Stadium in Hillsboro until it received a call at 6:33 p.m. Upon its return from a call, Hillsboro ambulance replaced Marion ambulance from 7:01 to 7:37 p.m.

6:33 p.m. — An 87-year-old man who fell out of his wheelchair and hit his head at Parkside Homes in Hillsboro was taken to HCH by Marion ambulance.
