Broadcasts about these fire and ambulance calls were monitored this past week by the newspaper:
9:30 a.m. — An 80-year-old man who passed out after choking on food at Parkside Homes in Hillsboro was taken to Hillsboro Community Hospital by Hillsboro ambulance. Marion ambulance initially responded as well but was not needed.
9:42 a.m. — A woman with a fever at Marion County Jail was taken to St. Luke Hospital, Marion, by Marion ambulance.
12:22 p.m. — An 84-year-old man who fell and hurt his back at Marion Assisted Living was taken to St. Luke by Marion ambulance. Hillsboro ambulance initially dispatched as well but was not needed.
2:16 p.m. — A different St. Luke patient was transferred by Marion ambulance to Wesley Medical Center, Wichita.
6:13 p.m. — The patient who fell at 12:22 p.m. was transferred by Marion ambulance from St. Luke to Salina Regional Health Center.
8 p.m. — Peabody firefighters determined that a chemical odor in the 800 block of N. Olive St. was from painted wood being burned in a back yard.
10:11 p.m. — A 30-year-old man who possibly overdosed in the 800 block of N. Elm St. in Peabody was taken to HCH by Hillsboro ambulance. Marion ambulance and, as a first-response unit, Peabody ambulance also responded to the call.
10:54 p.m. — A 68-year-old man having trouble breathing at a farmhouse near 120th and Indigo Rds. was taken to HCH by Peabody ambulance. Marion ambulance also responded to the call.
Technical problems prevented recording of transmissions from 7 to 11:38 a.m.
12:58 p.m. — A 34-year-old woman was transferred by Hillsboro ambulance from HCH to NMC Health, formerly Newton Medical Center.
2:45 p.m. — A St. Luke patient was transferred by Marion ambulance to NMC. On instructions from the county ambulance director, an additional requested transfer from HCH to NMC was delayed until Marion ambulance returned in the county.
3:56 p.m. — A 48-year-old woman suffering from diabetes and depression in the 200 block of W. 6th St. in Florence was taken to St. Luke by Peabody ambulance. Florence first responders did not answer a page.
4:34 p.m. — After Marion ambulance returned to the county, Hillsboro ambulance completed a patient transfer from HCH to NMC.
7:03 p.m. — An 80-year-old man lying face down in the street in the 500 block of S. Lincoln St, after falling and suffering a nosebleed and difficulty breathing was taken to HCH by Hillsboro ambulance.
7:14 p.m. — A detector indicating high levels of carbon monoxide at a residence near 190th and Falcon Rds. was determined by Hillsboro firefighters to be a false alarm. Marion ambulance initially was summoned because one of the evacuated residents had a headache. However, ambulance attendants later were told they were not needed.
9:20 p.m. — A 35-year-old woman with a high fever and chest pains and having trouble breathing at Oakwood Apartments in Hillsboro was taken to HCH by Hillsboro ambulance.
12:27 a.m. — An 81-year-old woman, bleeding from her head after she fell out of a wheelchair at Parkside Homes in Hillsboro, declined to be taken to a hospital by Hillsboro ambulance.
10:23 a.m. — A false alarm sent Peabody firefighters to a home in the 800 block of N. Chestnut St. in Peabody.
2:38 p.m. — A 36-year-old man who slipped and hit his head while wrestling with another person at a rental home in the 600 block of S. Roosevelt St. chose to go to St. Luke on his own rather than be taken by Marion ambulance, which checked him at the scene.
6:53 p.m. — A 74-year-old woman who fell and hurt her hip at Parkside Homes was taken to HCH by Hillsboro ambulance.
3:10 a.m. — A 60-year-old woman who could not get comfortable because of an old sciatic injury was taken by Marion ambulance to St. Luke from Homestead Senior Residences, Marion.
7:20 a.m. — An 87-year-old woman with an altered level of consciousness after hospital treatment for an infection the day before was taken by Marion ambulance to Susan B. Allen Hospital, El Dorado, from a farmhouse near 40th and Yarrow Rds. Burns first responders tended to the patient before the ambulance arrived.
9:29 a.m. — A 64-year-old woman was transferred by Marion ambulance from St. Luke to NMC.
10:13 a.m. — An unconscious 96-year-old woman at a residence in the 400 block of N. Locust St. in Peabody was taken to NMC by Peabody ambulance.
11:28 a.m. — An 86-year-old woman who fell at a residence in the 700 block of E. 1st St. in Hillsboro and could not get up was taken to HCH by the county’s backup ambulance, based in Hillsboro.
12:26 p.m. — An 89-year-old man with low blood pressure at Parkside Homes was taken to HCH by Hillsboro ambulance.
5:42 p.m. — A 68-year-old woman was transferred by Marion ambulance from St. Luke to Kansas Heart Hospital, Wichita.
7:57 p.m. — A 31-year-old woman having a seizure after experiencing chest pains at a residence in the 100 block of W. 3rd St. in Florence was taken to NMC by Marion ambulance. Peabody ambulance also was called but attendants were told they weren’t needed. Florence first responders did not answer a page.
12:48 a.m. — An uninjured woman who fell between her bed and a wheelchair at a residence in the 500 block of S. Cedar St. was helped up by medics from Marion ambulance. The address initially was misreported as being in the 400 block. The patient declined to be taken to a hospital.
1:38 a.m. — A 50-year-old woman having trouble breathing at a residence in the 300 block of C. St. in Ramona was taken to Salina Regional by Marion ambulance. A member of the crew from Tampa ambulance, which also was dispatched, accompanied Marion medics on the trip.
11:29 a.m. — An emergency room patient at St. Luke was transferred by Marion ambulance to Wesley.
1:54 p.m. — A 5-year-old girl who fell off a bed and bumped her head at a home in the 600 block of N. Chestnut St. in Peabody was checked by medics from Marion ambulance, which was nearby while returning from Wichita. She was not taken to a hospital.
5:06 p.m. — What initially was reported to be a one-vehicle accident at US-50 and 90th Rd. turned out to be a farmer whose vehicle had become stuck in mud while he was checking a field. Peabody and Goessel firefighters and Peabody ambulance were dispatched but told to disregard the call.
7:01 p.m. — A 91-year-old man not feeling well in the 300 block of Meadow Ln. in Goessel was taken to NMC by Hillsboro ambulance. First responders from Goessel did not answer a page.
Technical problems related to a power failure prevented recording of transmissions from 9:02 to 10:23 p.m. During that time, Marion firefighters responded to reports of trees felled into power lines.
2:29 a.m. — An uninjured 86-year-old man who fell at Marion Assisted Living was helped up by medics from Marion ambulance. He declined to be taken to a hospital.
6:54 a.m. — A disoriented 36-year-old man knocking on apartment doors in the 500 block of W. Grand Ave. in Hillsboro was checked by Hillsboro ambulance attendants at the request of Hillsboro police. He declined to be taken to a hospital.
9:07 a.m. — A Hillsboro police officer and a sheriff’s deputy summoned Hillsboro ambulance and Hillsboro firefighters after entering a residence in the 200 block of N. Main St. in Hillsboro to check on a reportedly suicidal man in his 30s. Firefighters checked for leaking gas, and ambulance attendants tended to wrist wounds before transporting the man to HCH.
9:39 a.m. — An 86-year-old woman who fell at a farmhouse near 100th and Chisholm Trail Rds. was evaluated by first responders from Goessel and by medics from Marion ambulance and declined to be taken to a hospital.
11:54 a.m. — A 27-year-old male trauma patient was transferred by Marion ambulance from St. Luke to NMC.
2:10 p.m. — A 91-year-old man identified by code words as being a COVID-19 patient was taken by Hillsboro ambulance to NMC from the 300 block of Meadow Ln. in Goessel. Goessel first responders did not answer a page.
7:16 p.m. — A 58-year-old man was transferred by Marion ambulance from St. Luke to Salina Regional.
9:50 p.m. — An elderly motorcycle rider, whom Canton police were attempting to locate because of possible dementia issues, was found outside Casey’s General Store in Hillsboro and taken to HCH by Hillsboro ambulance.
