Broadcasts about these fire and ambulance calls were monitored this past week by the newspaper:

MAY 24

1:07 a.m. — A worker who had been pinned between an agitator and a wall at Barkman Honey in Hillsboro was taken to NMC Health, formerly Newton Medical Center, by Hillsboro ambulance.

5:50 a.m. — A disoriented elderly woman whom a passing motorist found sitting on a curb in the rain at Ash and B Sts. in Hillsboro was checked by medics from Hillsboro ambulance and returned to her nearby house by Hillsboro police. She declined to be taken to a hospital.

MAY 25

11:46 a.m. — A St. Luke Hospital patient was transferred by Marion ambulance to Wesley Medical Center, Wichita.

11:16 p.m. — A 45-year-old woman with back pain after falling in the 100 block of N. Walnut St. in Peabody was taken to NMC by Peabody ambulance.

THURSDAY

3:58 a.m. — Sheriff’s deputies directed traffic for nearly an hour after a double-trailer semi became stuck in the US-56/77/K-150 roundabout northeast of Marion.

7:36 a.m. — A 56-year-old woman scheduled for surgery was transferred from St. Luke to Wesley by Marion ambulance.

3:37 p.m. — A jailer took an inmate from the county jail to St. Luke and back.

4:21 p.m. — An 81-year-old woman who fell out of a chair in the 400 block of N. Lincoln St. in Marion declined to be taken to a hospital by Marion ambulance.

10:54 p.m. — Sheriff’s deputies again directed traffic for more than an hour after a similar blockage of the US-56/77/K-150 roundabout by a dual-trailer semi. A Marion officer relieved one of the deputies so the deputy could respond along with a Peabody officer to a report of a fight there.

FRIDAY

12:03 a.m. — A person involved in a fight among neighbors in the 600 block of N. Walnut St. in Peabody was checked by medics from Peabody ambulance but declined to be taken to a hospital.

5:43 a.m. — A passenger complaining of hip pain after a car hit a cow near 310th and Quail Creek Rds. was taken to St. Luke by Tampa ambulance.

11:17 a.m. — A 91-year-old woman who fell at Salem Homes, Hillsboro, was taken to St. Luke by Hillsboro ambulance.

5:14 p.m. — Fire in a debris pile at the site of a previous house fire in the 400 block of N. Pine St. was extinguished within half an hour by Peabody firefighters.

6:50 p.m. — A 90-year-old man on blood thinners who fell and gashed his head at Parkside Homes, Hillsboro, was taken to Hillsboro Community Hospital by Hillsboro ambulance.

8:49 p.m. — A 49-year-old man, unconscious from what was thought to be a diabetic reaction, declined to be taken to a hospital by Marion ambulance from the 1200 block of E. Denver St. in Marion.

SATURDAY

12:37 a.m. — What firefighters described as a major underground gas leak, reportedly started by a car accident in the 200 block of W. 5th St. in Tampa, led to evacuation of several houses north of the leak. Deputies and firefighters cordoned off the area for nearly two hours until a crew from Atmos Energy arrived.

1 a.m. — A 91-year-old woman having chest pains at Salem Homes declined to be taken to a hospital by Hillsboro ambulance.

1:03 a.m. — A patient who received medication at HCH was driven home by a Hillsboro police officer.

8:44 p.m. — An 80-year-old woman whose car became stuck in mud on Old Mill Rd. north of 60th Rd. delayed calling a tow truck and then needed help from Peabody firefighters to carry her out after she was too weak to escape from the mud herself. Road crews barricaded the impassible road, and the woman was taken by a sheriff’s deputy and a Peabody officer to the Peabody police station, where her son picked her up.

SUNDAY

7:54 a.m. — The driver and a passenger who cut her arm during a car-deer accident on US-77 south of 360th Rd. both declined to be taken to a hospital by Tampa ambulance. Firefighters from Lost Springs and Marion rescue squad members also responded to the accident, remaining on the scene for nearly an hour.

11:16 a.m. — A patient with an undisclosed condition was taken from Florence Public Library to St. Luke by Peabody ambulance, which had been on standby in Florence during Memorial Day weekend festivities, including the Florence Grand Prix motorcycle race.

11:52 a.m. — Medics from the county’s backup ambulance, also on standby in Florence, reportedly performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation on a person who suffered a seizure in front of Fuzzy’s Place sports bar in Florence. They then transported the patient to St. Luke. Marion ambulance was deployed on standby in Florence until 3 p.m. in case additional ambulances were needed.

5:06 p.m. — A St. Luke patient was transferred by Marion ambulance to NMC.

5:35 p.m. — A Parkside Homes patient was transferred by Hillsboro ambulance to HCH.

10:51 p.m. — A 48-year-old woman having a diabetic reaction in the 200 block of W. 6th St. in Florence was taken to St. Luke by Marion ambulance. Florence first responders were paged but did not answer.

11:10 p.m. — A 79-year-old cancer patient, unable to move at his residence in the 600 block of N. Popular St. in Peabody, was pronounced dead an hour later by medics from Hillsboro ambulance. Peabody ambulance was paged several times before an ambulance shift supervisor told dispatchers no crew was on duty in Peabody. Medics from Hillsboro ambulance initially reported that they intended to take the patient to NMC. They asked dispatchers to page Peabody firefighters to provide a driver for the ambulance, but no firefighters responded. Half an hour later, medics reported than the patient had died.

11:42 p.m. — A tree fire caused by a downed power lines near 110th and Diamond Rds. was extinguished by Goessel firefighters. They remained on the scene for about an hour.

MONDAY

5:57 a.m. — An 89-year-old man who injured his head in a fall at Parkside Homes was taken to HCH by Hillsboro ambulance.

5:54 p.m. — A 50-year-old motorcycle rider injured in an accident near the Adobe House Museum in Hillsboro was taken to HCH by Hillsboro ambulance. Hillsboro firefighters also responded to the accident.

7:34 p.m. — A woman who fell at a residence in the 500 block of S. Cedar St. in Marion was helped up by medics from Marion ambulance but declined to be taken to a hospital.

8:12 p.m. — The accident victim taken to HCH was transferred by Hillsboro ambulance on an emergency basis to Wesley.

9:16 p.m. — A small fire in a wheat field at Kanza and 160th Rds. was extinguished within 20 minutes by Hillsboro firefighters.
