Broadcasts about these fire and ambulance calls were monitored this past week by the newspaper:

OCT. 26

12:38 p.m. — A man with chest pains and difficulty breathing was taken by Hillsboro ambulance to Hillsboro Community Hospital from near 150th and Indigo Rds. Code words normally reserved for COVID-19 cases were used in dispatching the call.

OCT. 27

5:21 a.m. — An HCH patient was transferred by Marion ambulance to Research Medical Center, Kansas City.

10:37 a.m. — A 71-year-old man having trouble breathing in the 700 block of N. Elm St. in Peabody was taken to Newton Medical Center by Peabody ambulance. The ambulance’s lone crew member was augmented by member of the crew from Marion’s backup ambulance.

THURSDAY

1:33 a.m. — A 63-year-old woman having trouble breathing after falling down basement stairs in the 300 block of S. Cedar St. in Hillsboro was taken to HCH by Hillsboro ambulance. Hillsboro firefighters helped lift the patient. Marion ambulance also was called initially but was told it was not needed.

6:31 a.m. — A 71-year-old with a possible cerebral hemorrhage was transferred by Hillsboro ambulance from HCH to Wesley Medical Center, Wichita.

1:40 p.m. — An 18-year-old boy complaining of an extreme headache and other medical issues was taken by Peabody ambulance to Newton Med from the 700 block of N. Chestnut St. in Peabody. The ambulance service’s shift supervisor, based in Marion, filled in as the second attendant for Peabody ambulance.

10:11 p.m. — A 61-year-old man was transferred by Marion ambulance from St. Luke to Via Christi – St. Francis Hospital, Wichita.

FRIDAY

3:26 a.m. — A male student having a seizure at Tabor College townhouses at 400 S. Jefferson St. in Hillsboro declined to be taken to a hospital by Hillsboro ambulance.

5:39 a.m. — A second call involving the same student ended with the student being taken to HCH by Hillsboro ambulance.

12:53 p.m. — A St. Luke patient was transferred to Salem Homes, Hillsboro, by Marion ambulance.

6:58 p.m. — An 86-year-old woman was transferred by Hillsboro ambulance from HCH to Via Christi – St. Joseph Hospital, Wichita.

10:34 p.m. — A 79-year-old woman was transferred by Hillsboro ambulance from HCH to Wesley.

SATURDAY

7:54 a.m. — A 76-year-old woman who fell out of bed after recent knee surgery declined to be taken to a hospital by Peabody ambulance. However, Peabody firefighters were called to her residence in the 600 block of W. Division St. in Peabody to help lift her.

8:07 a.m. — A woman who fell and hit her head at Hilltop Manor apartments in Marion declined to be taken to a hospital by Marion ambulance.

10:13 a.m. — A 70-year-old man with gastrointestinal bleeding was transferred on physician’s orders from Peabody Health and Rehab to Newton Med by Peabody ambulance,

10:48 a.m. — A 70-year-old man who had been reported to have fallen at an apartment in the 100 block of N. Washington St. in Hillsboro declined to be taken to a hospital by Hillsboro ambulance.

11:32 a.m. — A 93-year-old woman who was having trouble breathing after suffering chest pains at Parkside Homes in Hillsboro was taken to HCH by Hillsboro ambulance.

12:12 p.m. — A 57-year-old woman having chest pains in the 100 block of S. Kansas St. in Lincolnville was taken by Tampa ambulance to Herington Hospital. Marion ambulance and first responders from Lincolnville also answered the call.

4:08 p.m. — At the request of Hillsboro police, Hillsboro ambulance was sent to a residence in the 200 block of S. Washington St. in Hillsboro to evaluate a potential psychological or medical patient. The patient being evaluated declined to be taken to a hospital by the ambulance but, according to police transmissions, was taken by private vehicle to Salina Regional Health Center.

6:32 p.m. — Alerted by an off-duty ambulance attendant, Marion ambulance dispatched itself to 5th and Main Sts. in Marion and took to St. Luke a patient who may have been suffering a seizure.

SUNDAY

6:08 a.m. — A man who fell and may have lost consciousness at a residence in the 400 block of S. Freeborn St. in Marion declined to be taken to a hospital by Marion ambulance.

8:25 a.m. — A 29-year-old woman having trouble breathing in the 600 block of N. Poplar St. in Peabody was taken to Newton Med by Marion ambulance. No responders from Peabody were paged. Code words used in the dispatch indicated COVID-19 might have been suspected.

9:44 a.m. — An 87-year-old woman was transferred by Hillsboro ambulance from HCH to Kansas Heart Hospital, Wichita.

MONDAY

1:26 p.m. — A 64-year-old woman with severe leg pain was taken by Marion ambulance to St. Luke from Homestead Affordable Housing in Marion.

2:20 p.m. — A St. Luke patient was transferred to Newton Med by Marion ambulance.

4:02 p.m. — Sheriff’s deputies asked Hillsboro ambulance to check out a driver, initially assumed to be intoxicated but actually suffering a medical problem before she became involved in a one-vehicle accident at 90th and Goldenrod Rds. The patient declined to be taken to a hospital.
