DISPATCHES

Broadcasts about these fire and ambulance calls were monitored this past week by the newspaper:

SEPT. 1

9:27 a.m. — Marion and Hillsboro ambulances, Hillsboro rescue squad, Goessel firefighters, and Goessel first responders were dispatched along with units from McPherson County to a false report from an automated alerting system of a traffic accident at 160th and Meridian Rds. The accident actually was on I-135 in McPherson County.

11:41 a.m. — A patient was transferred by Marion ambulance from St. Luke Hospital, Marion, to Children’s Mercy Hospital, Kansas City.

3:24 p.m. — Hillsboro ambulance, responding to a call that inexplicably was not recorded by the newspaper’s equipment, reported that the patient declined to be taken to a hospital.

3:26 p.m. — A 10-year-old girl in the 300 block of S. Berry St. in Lost Springs was checked by Tampa ambulance attendants but not taken to a hospital after she reportedly was hit and kicked. The call originally was dispatched as being on N. Berry St.

4:39 p.m. — A 78-year-old man who vomited, had blood in his urine, and fell in his bathroom in the 1000 block of N. Vine St. in Peabody was taken to St. Luke by Hillsboro ambulance. A lone EMT in Peabody ambulance was first on the scene.

5:08 p.m. — A fire alarm at Tabor College’s Cedar Hall dormitory was determined by Hillsboro firefighters to be a false alarm.

9 p.m. — A 71-year-old patient was transferred by Hillsboro ambulance from Hillsboro Community Hospital to Kansas Heart Hospital, Wichita.

SEPT. 2

11:19 a.m. — A 48-year-old woman who was feeling dizzy in the 400 block of N. Olive St. in Peabody was taken to St. Luke by Peabody ambulance. When no attendants initially answered a page for Peabody ambulance, Marion ambulance was dispatched. That call then was canceled after three other ambulance attendants, one of them bringing Peabody ambulance, responded and met at the scene.

5:15 p.m. — Hillsboro police asked Hillsboro ambulance attendants to check a juvenile who reportedly had fallen in the 100 block of E. 1st St. in Hillsboro. The juvenile was not taken to a hospital.

THURSDAY

12:15 p.m. — A 2-week-old boy who fell from a toilet seat in the 400 block of Columbus St. in Tampa was checked by Tampa ambulance attendants but not taken to a hospital.

7:38 p.m. — A 71-year-old woman complaining of diarrhea, dizziness, and vomiting was taken by Peabody ambulance to St. Luke from the 600 block of Sycamore St. in Peabody. Both Hillsboro ambulance and the county ambulance director initially responded because of uncertainty whether sufficient Peabody ambulance attendants were available.

8:22 p.m. — A boat stranded without fuel or lights in the middle of Marion Reservoir was towed to Cottonwood Point by Hillsboro firefighters, who remained on the scene for 1½ hours.

FRIDAY

9:20 a.m. — A 90-year-old man who told dispatchers only that he wasn’t feeling well was taken to HCH by Hillsboro ambulance from the 300 block of Willow Rd. in Hillsboro.

5:11 p.m. — Tampa ambulance attendants helped a 12-year-old boy who fell and hit his head while skateboarding in the 500 block of Newton St. in Lincolnville.

Technical difficulties prevented recording of the final disposition of the call or of any other emergency dispatches for 2½ hours.

9:15 p.m. — For reasons not clear from recorded dispatches, Tampa ambulance went to Herington Hospital and returned to Tampa 2½ hours later.

9:53 p.m. — A woman bleeding from injuries suffered after her vehicle hit a deer at US-50 and Turkey Creek Rd. was checked by Peabody ambulance attendants but declined to be taken to a hospital.

10:24 p.m. — A 57-year-old man who fell in the 100 block of W. 7th St. in Florence was helped up by Peabody ambulance attendants. He declined to be taken to a hospital.

SATURDAY

12:13 p.m. — Marion and Tampa ambulances, Marion rescue squad, and Lincolnville firefighters and first responders were sent to a two-vehicle accident at 300th Rd. and US-56/77, but no injuries were reported.

6:25 p.m. — A 72-year-old man who passed out after getting out of a car in the 1400 block of E. Denver St. was taken to Newton Medical Center by Marion ambulance.

6:46 p.m. — A 74-year-old woman who suffered seizures at Peabody Health and Rehab was taken to Newton Med by Peabody ambulance. Hillsboro ambulance also was called, but an additional ambulance attendant from Marion assisted instead.

9:50 p.m. — Police asked Marion ambulance to stand by while checking on an elderly woman on Victory Lane who had been ill and was not answering phone calls from her son. She was not taken to a hospital.

10:27 p.m. — A resident who was making a report to two sheriff’s deputies in the 100 block of W. 7th St. in Florence was taken for undisclosed reasons to St. Luke by Peabody ambulance.

SUNDAY

1:22 a.m. — A 53-year-old woman was transferred from HCH to Via Christi – St. Francis Hospital, Wichita.

MONDAY

1:58 a.m. — A man with unspecified symptoms in the 100 block of W. 4th St. in Florence asked to be taken to St. Luke by Marion ambulance.

12:22 p.m. — A man, possibly suffering from heat exhaustion at a county lake residence on Lakeshore Dr. near Back Bay Ct., was taken to St. Luke by Marion ambulance.

1:59 p.m. — A 71-year-old woman was transferred from HCH to Newton Med by Hillsboro ambulance.

4:36 p.m. — A St. Luke patient was transferred by Marion ambulance to Via Christi – St. Joseph Hospital, Wichita.

10:49 p.m. — An intoxicated 57-year-old man threatening to harm himself and complaining of blood in his stool was taken by Marion ambulance to St. Luke from the 100 block of W. 7th St. in Florence. A sheriff’s deputy also was dispatched.
