Broadcasts about these fire and ambulance calls were monitored this past week by the newspaper:
2:20 a.m. — A 54-year-old woman was transferred from St. Luke Hospital, Marion, to Newton Medical Center by Marion ambulance.
6:26 a.m. — Peabody firefighters directed traffic around downed telephone lines at 7th and Chestnut Sts. in Peabody while waiting nearly four hours for an AT&T repair crew to arrive.
12:02 p.m. — A 64-year-old man was transferred from Hillsboro Community Hospital to Newton Med by Hillsboro ambulance.
1:43 p.m. — A 36-year-old male cardiac patient was transferred by Marion ambulance from St. Luke to Via Christi – St. Francis Hospital, Wichita.
6:29 p.m. — A possible COVID-19 patient was transferred by Marion ambulance from St. Luke to Newton Med.
8:36 p.m. — A woman who was having trouble breathing in the 100 block of N. Birch St. in Hillsboro was taken to HCH by Hillsboro ambulance.
8:50 p.m. — Marion ambulance and Hillsboro first responders were sent to a traffic accident at Ash and D Sts. in Hillsboro, but a police officer determined they were not needed.
9:12 p.m. — A 52-year-old woman with nausea and body aches was taken by Hillsboro ambulance to Newton Med from the 100 block of S. State St. in Goessel. A Goessel first responder assisted. Goessel firefighters helped lift the patient.
11:25 a.m. — A woman whose medical alert service indicated she had fallen at an apartment at Salem Homes in Hillsboro declined to be taken to a hospital by Hillsboro ambulance.
3:11 p.m. — A 93-year-old female hospice patient, in pain and drifting in and out of consciousness, was taken by Peabody ambulance to St. Luke from the 700 block of N. Plum St. in Peabody.
3:37 p.m. — A 71-year-old man who apparently dislocated his hip while attempting to get onto a tractor near 140th and Yarrow Rds. was taken to Newton Med by Marion ambulance. A first responder from Florence and the county ambulance director assisted with the call.
8:36 p.m. — A 58-year-old woman was transferred by Hillsboro ambulance from HCH to Kansas Heart Hospital, Wichita.
3:02 a.m. — Peabody ambulance was ordered to stand by near a fight, possibly involving guns, bats, and other weapons, in the 300 and 400 blocks of N. Locust St. in Peabody.
The ambulance was sent in after a woman complained to police of facial cuts and possibly a broken wrist. However, the ambulance found no injuries more serious than a scraped knee and returned to its station.
Police, including two sheriff’s deputies and one Peabody officer, remained on the scene until 4:20 a.m.
12:11 p.m. — A person involved in a traffic accident in which concrete spilled onto a roadway near 180th and Holly Rds. was checked by Hillsboro ambulance attendants but declined to be taken to a hospital.
1:08 p.m. — An 86-year-old man drifting in an out of consciousness at Salem Home was taken to HCH by Hillsboro ambulance.
1:14 p.m. — A medical alert on behalf of an elderly man who fell out of a motorized wheelchair near Marion Sports and Aquatics Center was helped by police, who canceled a call to Marion ambulance just as the ambulance was arriving.
4:23 p.m. — A leaking gas line at a construction site in the 300 block of S. Church St. in Goessel was secured by Goessel firefighters until a gas company repair crew could arrive.
5:47 p.m. — A 76-year-old woman experiencing back pain was taken by Hillsboro ambulance to HCH from the 100 block of N. Birch St. in Hillsboro.
6:29 p.m. — After some confusion over the address, Marion and Florence ambulances were sent to the 100 block of W. 3rd St. in Florence for a possibly suicidal woman. Sheriff’s deputies reported she was unharmed and declined medical attention.
12:24 a.m. — A security company’s report of multiple fire alarms at a house In the 100 block of Birch St. in Durham resulted in firefighters from Durham, Hillsboro, and Tampa and ambulances from Hillsboro and Tampa being summoned to what turned out be a false alarm.
2:26 a.m. — A 76-year-old man who fainted and fell at a house in the 100 block of S. Floral Dr. in Hillsboro was taken to HCH by Hillsboro ambulance.
3:50 a.m. — A lone Durham firefighter checked additional fire alerts for the house on Birch St. and again found them to be a false alarm.
7:28 a.m. — An HCH patient was transferred to Via Christi – St. Joseph Hospital in Wichita by Hillsboro ambulance.
7:37 a.m. — An unconscious man with irregular or stopped breathing was taken by Marion ambulance to St. Luke from the 400 block of S. 4th St. in Marion. Marion firefighters were called to provide medical assistance.
12:28 p.m. — A St. Luke patient was transferred to Newton Med by Marion ambulance.
3:41 p.m. — A victim who had been pinned in wreckage of a multi-vehicle accident involving a semi-trailer truck on US-50 near Dollar General in Peabody was airlifted to a Wichita hospital by a LifeSafe helicopter that landed on the highway.
Florence, Hillsboro, Marion, and Peabody ambulances, Peabody and Walton rescue squads, the county ambulance director, and Peabody firefighters all were dispatched to the accident, and Tampa ambulance was ordered to stand by in Hillsboro to handle any other calls.
Some units remained on the scene for more than two hours.
9:27 p.m. — Hillsboro ambulance attendants drew blood from a person Hillsboro police took to the ambulance station for a sobriety check.
12:54 a.m. — A 60-year-old man was transferred by Hillsboro ambulance from HCH to Wesley Woodlawn Hospital, Wichita.
3:50 p.m. — A 65-year-old who suffered a head injury at a farm near Comanche Rd. and 27th Ave., between Canton and Goessel in McPherson County, was airlifted by a LifeSafe helicopter. Goessel firefighters and a McPherson County ambulance spent nearly an hour at the scene.
8:30 p.m. — At the request of Hillsboro police, Hillsboro ambulance attendants traveled to Floral and D Sts. in Hillsboro to draw blood from a person suspected of driving under the influence of intoxicants.
10:09 p.m. — A woman ejected out of her vehicle, over a fence, and into a pasture in a rollover accident on US-56/77, three miles north of K-150, was taken to St. Luke by Marion ambulance.
Two dogs that she had been transporting in cages were taken to Animal Health Center.
Hillsboro ambulance attendants, Marion firefighters, two sheriff’s deputies, and a Marion police officer assisted at the scene.
1:48 a.m. — The woman involved in the rollover accident on US-56/77 was transferred to Wesley by Marion ambulance.
6:58 a.m. — A 74-year-old woman drifting in and out of consciousness was taken from the 600 block of W. Division St. in Peabody to Newton Med by Marion ambulance. A lone attendant from Peabody ambulance assisted as a first responder.
10:50 p.m. — A 90-year-old woman was transferred from St. Luke to St. Francis by Marion ambulance.
11:22 a.m. — A 57-year-old woman in the 600 block of Hudson St., Marion, who was bleeding from a previous surgical incision, was checked by Marion ambulance but declined to be taken to a hospital.
11:23 a.m. — A 46-year-old woman who may have suffered a stroke was taken by Hillsboro ambulance to St. Francis from a farmhouse near 130th and Limestone Rds. Peabody ambulance and the county ambulance director also responded to call.
