Broadcasts about these fire and ambulance calls were monitored this past week by the newspaper:

JULY 16

1:38 a.m. — An 81-year-old man who began feeling hip pain after falling several hours earlier was taken to Newton Medical Center from the 300 block of Grandview St. in Florence by Marion ambulance. Florence ambulance was paged, but an attendant responded that no one was able to handle the call.

1:50 a.m. — A woman whose leg had swollen after recent surgery was checked by Hillsboro ambulance attendants but declined to be taken to a hospital from her residence on Jerome St. at Marion County Lake.

JULY 17

4:07 a.m. — A nauseated, feverish 85-year-old man with kidney failure whose catheter had been removed earlier in the day was taken by Hillsboro ambulance to Hillsboro Community Hospital from the 100 block of N. Wilson St. in Hillsboro.

8:12 a.m. — A septic HCH patient was transferred to Via Christi – St. Francis Hospital, Wichita, by Hillsboro ambulance.

9:56 a.m. — An unconscious 74-year-old woman with a history of high blood pressure was taken by Tampa ambulance from the 500 block of Topeka St. in Lincolnville to St. Luke Hospital, Marion. First responders from Lincolnville assisted.

10:22 a.m. — A woman residing at Homestead Senior Residences in Marion was ordered by a physician to be taken to St. Luke by Marion ambulance.

5:13 p.m. — A St. Luke patient was transferred to St. Joseph Hospital, Wichita, by Marion ambulance.

6:55 p.m. — A ditch fire on 190th Rd. between Limestone and Mustang Rds. was quickly extinguished by Marion firefighters.

THURSDAY

4:47 a.m. — A St. Luke patient with chest pains was transferred to St. Francis by Marion ambulance.

7:42 a.m. — A 17-year-old girl who suffered a seizure at a residence near 70th and Chisholm Trail Rd. on the Marion-Harvey County line declined to be taken to a hospital by Hillsboro ambulance. Goessel first responders were paged but did not reply.

12:32 p.m. — Hillsboro ambulance briefly was told to stand by, then told to disregard the call, after a daughter reportedly jumped from a vehicle, barricaded herself in an office at Air Stream Guy in Marion, and began hitting herself in the face. Two Marion police officers dealt with the situation, remaining on the scene for nearly an hour.

1:56 p.m. — A motorist injured in a two-car accident on US-77 at 80th Rd. was taken to St. Luke by Marion ambulance. First responders from Burns reached the scene shortly after Marion ambulance and the county emergency medical services director did. Florence ambulance was paged but did not respond. Peabody ambulance initially was paged, but the EMS director switched the call to Marion ambulance.

2:14 p.m. — A light-headed, vomiting 57-year-old woman with pain in her side and a history of heart problems was taken by Hillsboro ambulance to HCH from the 200 block of E. 1st St. in Hillsboro. Ambulance attendants had difficulty locating a key, hidden near the door, to get into the residence. Hillsboro firefighters helped lift the patient.

5:05 p.m. — A St. Luke patient was transferred by Marion ambulance to the trauma unit of Wesley Medical Center, Wichita.

5:36 p.m. — A St. Luke patient was transferred to Newton Med in the county’s backup ambulance after off-duty ambulance attendants were paged to handle the call.

8 p.m. — An HCH patient was transferred to St. Francis by Hillsboro ambulance.

FRIDAY

6:27 a.m. — A 64-year-old woman with numbness in her side was taken, at HCH’s request, directly to St. Francis from Main Street Ministries in Hillsboro. Hillsboro ambulance’s response was delayed because dispatchers had reported the address as being on N. Main St. instead of S. Main St. Hillsboro firefighters helped lift the patient.

2:46 p.m. — A medical alert from an apartment at Homestead Senior Residences was found by Marion ambulance attendants to be a false alarm.

5:20 p.m. — A 79-year-old woman who fell and hurt her head at Salem Home Apartments in Hillsboro was taken to HCH by Hillsboro ambulance.

8:40 p.m. — An accidentally ruptured gas line near 220th and Indigo Rds. was monitored by Hillsboro firefighters, who stopped traffic in the area until gas company employees could arrive. Firefighters remained on the scene for more than an hour.

SATURDAY

1:25 a.m. — A woman having trouble getting up from a fall after a recent hip replacement was taken by Marion ambulance to St. Luke from a residence on Jerome St. at Marion County Lake.

4:01 a.m. — An allegedly erratic driver, stopped by a sheriff’s deputy at US-50 and Sunflower Rd., was taken to St. Luke by Peabody ambulance.

The driver, originally reported by Chase County, reportedly hit curbing in the US-50/77 roundabout in Florence and crossed the centerline repeatedly before being stopped.

The deputy, backed up by a Hillsboro officer because no Peabody or highway patrol officers were available, initially called for a drug recognition expert from the highway patrol and Harvey County, but none were available.

He then reported that the driver’s blood sugar was extremely high and called for an ambulance.

3:07 p.m. — A woman who activated a medical alarm after she fell, injuring her head, at a residence in the 400 block of N. Freeborn St. declined to be taken to a hospital by Marion ambulance.

6:22 p.m. — An 87-year-old woman who fell at a residence near 70th and Holly Rds. was taken to Newton Med by Peabody ambulance.

6:31 p.m. — A 95-year-old woman who was feeling ill in an Sunrise Townhomes apartment where air conditioning failed was taken to St. Luke by Marion ambulance.

SUNDAY

9:55 a.m. — Police, Marion ambulance, and the county EMS director responded to a report of a death at a residence in the 100 block of W. Santa Fe St. in Marion.

5:49 p.m. — A 74-year-old woman suffering chest pains and a headache at Oakwood Manor apartments in Hillsboro declined to be taken to a hospital by Hillsboro ambulance.

MONDAY

8:59 a.m. — An HCH patient was transferred to Kansas Heart Hospital, Wichita, by Hillsboro ambulance.
