Broadcasts about these fire and ambulance calls were monitored this past week by the newspaper:
MAY 21
10:13 a.m. — An elderly couple stranded after escaping from a vehicle stalled in waist-deep water near 170th and Falcon Rds. were taken to Hillsboro Community Hospital by Hillsboro ambulance. Firefighters from Hillsboro and Goessel used a boat to reach them.
MAY 22
8:22 a.m. — An incoherent 75-year-old woman in 400 block of W. 5th St. in Florence was taken to Susan B. Allen Hospital in El Dorado by Marion ambulance. Florence firefighters were paged to help lift, but none responded.
11:38 a.m. — A man who fell near 59th and Newell Rds. was helped up by Peabody ambulance. He declined to be taken to a hospital.
4:44 p.m. — A light-headed 53-year-old woman with low blood pressure at Westview Manor was taken to St. Luke Hospital, Marion, by Peabody ambulance.
5:22 p.m. — Peabody firefighters helped direct traffic after a tree and utility lines fell near Elm and 4th Sts.
7:49 p.m. — Peabody ambulance returned to St. Luke to transfer a patient back to Westview.
10:17 p.m. — Tampa ambulance stood by during a domestic dispute in Ramona.
10:25 p.m. — A St. Luke patient was transferred to Wesley Woodlawn Hospital in Wichita by Marion ambulance.
10:41 p.m. — An intoxicated and combative teenage girl in the 300 block of S. Locust St. was checked but not transported by Peabody ambulance.
THURSDAY
5:16 a.m. — A 58-year-old woman who fell near 90th and Diamond Rds. was helped up by Hillsboro ambulance attendants. She did not request medical treatment.
5:30 p.m. — An 85-year-old woman who fell at Marion Assisted Living was helped up by Marion ambulance attendants. She did not request medical treatment.
12:04 p.m. — A leak in a worker’s acetylene bottle caught a tarp on fire in an office above Hillsboro True Value Hardware, but the fire was extinguished before firefighters arrived. Hillsboro, Durham, and Marion firefighters and Hillsboro ambulance initially were called, but only Hillsboro firefighters were needed, and they provided only ventilation and cleanup.
4:53 p.m. — A teenager accidentally shot in the arm while handling a rifle near Falcon and 240th Rds. was taken to Wesley Medical Center, Wichita, by Hillsboro ambulance.
FRIDAY
4:54 a.m. — An 81-year-old man with symptoms of a heart attack was taken to St. Luke from near Bluestem and 250th Rds. Marion ambulance arrived at 5:09 a.m., two minutes before Lincolnville first responders. The county emergency medical director also responded. The ambulance arrived at St. Luke at 5:44 a.m. and soon after returned to help stabilize the patient, but he died before arrangements for a helicopter transfer could be made.
10:03 a.m. — An unresponsive man in his 40s who fell at Westview Manor was taken to Newton Medical Center by Peabody ambulance. Marion ambulance and the county EMS director assisted.
3:13 p.m. — A St. Luke patient was transferred to Via Christi – St. Francis Hospital, Wichita, by Marion ambulance.
3:24 p.m. — A 68-year-old man who was not wearing a helmet when he fell off a moped at 190th and Jade Rd. briefly lost consciousness and was taken to HCH by Hillsboro ambulance.
5:57 p.m. — An incoherent 86-year-old woman with kidney pain and a bladder infection was taken to St. Luke from the 300 block of N. Olive St. in Peabody by Peabody ambulance.
6:07 p.m. — A 66-year-old man whose wheelchair tipped over two hours earlier was taken to HCH from the 300 block of S. Ash St. by Hillsboro ambulance. Hillsboro firefighters helped lift.
9:38 p.m. — Burns firefighters helped set up roadblocks for high water in Butler County.
10:36 p.m. — A 97-year-old woman who fell at Parkside Homes was taken to HCH by Hillsboro ambulance.
SATURDAY
2:05 a.m. — An HCH patient was transferred to St. Francis by Hillsboro ambulance.
Calls between 5:56 a.m. and 8:12 p.m. were not recorded because of technical difficulties.
8:30 p.m. — Hillsboro ambulance took a patient to Wesley. Other information about the call was not available.
SUNDAY
12:25 p.m. — A 79-year-old woman with trouble breathing was taken to Newton Med by Marion ambulance from the 800 block of Barker St. in Florence, Florence ambulance also responded.
9:47 p.m. — A person who fell at Marion Assisted Living was taken to St. Luke by Marion ambulance.
10:33 p.m. — An unresponsive Westview Manor patient was taken to Newton Med by Peabody ambulance. Marion ambulance also responded.
MONDAY
2:52 p.m. — An HCH patient was transferred to St. Francis by Hillsboro ambulance.
3:10 p.m. — With Hillsboro ambulance on another call, Marion ambulance was sent to the 300 block of S. Ash St. in Hillsboro to help up an uninjured man who fell. An off-duty Hillsboro EMT also responded. The patient declined medical treatment.
4:28 p.m. — Hillsboro firefighters helped free an elderly man whose wheelchair became stuck in mud near a drainage pond behind the former Alco store at 615 N. Ash St. in Hillsboro.
7:25 p.m. — A 54-year-old man who was feeling faint near 80th and Chisholm Trail Rds. declined to be taken to a hospital by Hillsboro ambulance. First responders from Goessel also answered the call.
