Broadcasts about these fire and ambulance calls were monitored this past week by the newspaper:

JAN. 30

3:34 a.m. — A St. Luke Hospital patient was transferred to Newton Medical Center by Marion ambulance.

4:11 p.m. — An incoherent 69-year-old man was taken by Marion ambulance to St. Luke from a farm near 280th and Vista Rd. A page for first responders from Lincolnville apparently was not answered.

8:37 p.m. — As many as five people were injured in a two-vehicle accident at Date and Grand Sts. in Hillsboro.

Two patients were taken to Hillsboro Community Hospital and two others to St. Luke by Marion and Hillsboro ambulances.

A fifth patient, a 13-year-old who left the scene and went home, was tracked down by Hillsboro firefighters and checked for injuries.

9:11 p.m. — A driver coughing up blood from chest injuries after a one-vehicle accident between 30th and 40th Rds. on Timber Rd. was taken to Wesley Medical Center, Wichita, by Marion ambulance.

Peabody ambulance initially took the patient from the accident to a helicopter landing zone that Peabody firefighters had set up at the town’s football field. The helicopter, which had been summoned to the accident in Hillsboro but was not needed, had to refuel, however.

Instead of waiting, Marion ambulance, which originally had started toward the accident then turned back, reversed directions again and met Peabody ambulance at 10:08 p.m. at the football field and took the patient to Wesley, arriving at 11 p.m.

A first responder from Burns and Peabody rescue squad also was at the accident.

JAN. 31

1:57 a.m. — A woman with severe abdominal pain was taken from the 100 block of S. South Ave. in Lehigh to McPherson Hospital by Hillsboro ambulance.

5:15 a.m. — A disoriented 59-year-old man suffering back pain after swerving to miss a deer on Old Mill Rd. south of Peabody was taken to Newton Medical Center by Peabody ambulance.

The accident was reported by off-duty ambulance attendant who had thought the accident was in Marion County. It turned out to be in Butler County.

Peabody rescue squad and firefighters also responded.

8:36 a.m. — A woman suffering chest pains in the 200 block of S. Main St. in Hillsboro was taken on doctor’s orders to Via Christi – St. Francis Hospital in Wichita by Hillsboro ambulance. An off-duty ambulance attendant was first to arrive at her address.

12:41 p.m. — A woman who fell at a residence in the 100 block of E. 9th St. in Florence was taken to St. Luke by Marion ambulance.

1:07 p.m. — Hillsboro ambulance transferred a patient from St. Luke to HCH then back to St. Luke.

1:50 p.m. — An out-of-control grass fire started by sparks from welding east of 270th Rd. and US-56/77 took nearly four hours for Lincolnville and Lost Springs firefighters to extinguish.

5:09 p.m. — A ditch fire on K-15 south of 110th Rd. was extinguished in less than half an hour by Goessel firefighters.

5:35 p.m. — A St. Luke patient was transferred to Kansas Medical Center, Andover, by Marion ambulance.

6:17 p.m. — Hay bales on fire near Falcon and 240th Rd. were extinguished in less than an hour by Hillsboro firefighters.

11:20 p.m. — A man who fell at a residence in the 300 block of W. Arbor Ct. in Hillsboro was helped up by Hillsboro ambulance. He declined to be taken to a hospital.

THURSDAY

2:21 p.m. — A report of an unresponsive diabetic woman with slurred speech at Homestead Senior Residences in Marion turned out to be a false alarm for Marion ambulance, which could not locate the patient.

4:03 p.m. — A St. Luke patient was transferred to Wesley by Marion ambulance.

4:10 p.m. — A 56-year-old former stroke victim who fell at a residence in the 200 block of N. Lincoln St. in Hillsboro declined to be taken to a hospital by Hillsboro ambulance and said she planned to go there on her own.

9:44 p.m. — A patient, who a physician from Newton Med said might have suffered a stroke, was taken to the physician’s hospital by Peabody ambulance from a residence south of 10th Rd. on Remington Rd.

FRIDAY

10:41 a.m. — A grass fire on US-56 at the Marion/McPherson county line was extinguished by McPherson County firefighters. Hillsboro firefighters also were dispatched but were told six minutes later to disregard the call.

12:08 p.m. — A medical alarm supposedly activated by a 70-year-old man at Oakwood Manor Apartments in Hillsboro turned out to be a false alarm. Hillsboro ambulance reported that the apartment from which the alarm was reported had been vacant since the death last year of the former occupant, a woman.

4:06 p.m. — A man who reportedly fell down a set of stairs in the 200 block of W. 9th St. was taken to Newton Med by Peabody ambulance.

4:37 p.m. — An HCH patient with abdominal pain was transferred to Newton Med by Hillsboro ambulance.

5:11 p.m. — A 57-year-old suffering chest pains at Westview Manor in Peabody was taken to Newton Med by Marion ambulance.

saturday

7:35 a.m. — A woman with stomach pain and a history of internal bleeding was taken by Peabody ambulance to St. Luke from Indian Guide Terrace apartments in Peabody.

1:36 p.m. — A piece of ice that was choking an infant in the 200 block of Grandview St. in Florence was dislodged before a Florence ambulance attendant, and later the ambulance itself, arrived. The infant was not taken to a hospital.

2:39 p.m. — An 82-year-old man who fell while getting out of bed after being sick with flu for several days was taken by Hillsboro ambulance to HCH from the 500 block of S. Lincoln St. in Hillsboro.

2:52 p.m. — A field fire near 200th and Sunrise Rds. was extinguished in less than an hour by Marion firefighters.

sunday

6:27 a.m. — A patient with a fever and shortness of breath at Bethesda Home in Goessel was transferred to Newton Med by Hillsboro ambulance.

5:13 p.m. — A 77-year-old COPD sufferer with difficulty breathing was taken from the 100 block of S. Olive St. in Peabody to Newton Med by Peabody ambulance.

10:15 p.m. — Marion ambulance and Florence first responders were briefly alerted to stand by during a police standoff with a possibly armed man in the 400 block of W. 6th St. in Florence. A suspect was taken into custody less than two minutes later, and the call was canceled.

MONDAY

1:15 p.m. — A 78-year-old woman who has a pacemaker and may have suffered a heart attack in the 300 block of F St. in Ramona was taken to Herington Hospital by Tampa ambulance. The county emergency medical services director also responded to the dispatch.

9:29 p.m. — An HCH patient was transferred to Salina Regional Health Center by Hillsboro ambulance.
