These fire and ambulance calls were monitored by the newspaper this past week:

APRIL 25

2:56 a.m. — Hillsboro ambulance was called to transfer a patient from Hillsboro Community Hospital to Kansas Heart Hospital, Wichita. The call was cancelled nine minutes later but reinstated at 5:15 a.m. The ambulance returned at 8:18 a.m.

8:50 a.m. — Both Hillsboro ambulance and the county emergency medical services director spent nearly half an hour investigating a passerby’s report of a man lying in a ditch on US-56 between Bison and Chisholm Trail Rds. After initially not finding anyone, EMTs eventually located someone only to learn that state troopers planned to transport the person to McPherson County.

11:17 a.m. — Incomplete recordings appear to indicate that Peabody ambulance transported a patient from a nursing home to an out-of-county hospital.

5:23 p.m. — Two people were trapped and a third was also injured in a two-vehicle accident west of Adams St. and US-56 in Hillsboro. Rescue workers, firefighters, and three ambulances from Marion and Hillsboro, plus additional EMTs, responded. All of the injured were taken to HCH.

10:06 p.m. — A woman suffering vomiting and diarrhea and reporting that she could not get up was taken from the 400 block of E. Santa Fe St. to St. Luke Hospital by Marion ambulance.

APRIL 26

THURSDAY

8:03 a.m. — Marion ambulance transferred a patient from St. Luke to Newton Medical Center.

10:40 a.m. — A female student who had a seizure and fell out of her wheelchair was transported by Hillsboro ambulance from Hillsboro Middle and High School to HCH.

12:13 p.m. — Marion ambulance helped but did not transport a child whose leg became stuck in a bicycle in the 200 block of W. 4th St. in Florence. Marion firefighters also were called after no Florence firefighters responded.

4:32 p.m. — A 53-year-old man with extreme back pain at a farm on 160th Rd. near Indigo Rd. was taken to St. Luke by Hillsboro ambulance.

10:16 a.m. — A patient suffering neck pain in the 200 block of S. Roosevelt St. was taken to St. Luke by Marion ambulance.

FRIDAY

1:01 a.m. — A man with pain in his side was taken from an apartment in the 200 block of S. Ash St. to HCH by Hillsboro ambulance.

11:08 a.m. — Marion ambulance reported that it would be unable to transfer a patient needing advanced life support from St. Luke to Kansas Spine Hospital, Wichita. No alternative dispatch was recorded.

SATURDAY

7:59 a.m. — A 92-year-woman having trouble breathing at Marion Assisted Living Center was taken to St. Luke by Marion ambulance.

8:23 a.m. — With Marion ambulance still on the scene of a previous call, Peabody ambulance was dispatched to a report of an unresponsive person in the 300 block of S. Freeborn St. in Marion.

Marion ambulance responded after finishing its previous call at 8:36 a.m. Still not at the scene, Peabody ambulance was told to disregard at 8:46 a.m. Marion ambulance then transported the patient to St. Luke, arriving at 8:49 a.m.

Marion ambulance was back in its quarters at 8:59 p.m. Peabody ambulance was back in its quarters at 9:26 a.m.

9:44 a.m. — Marion ambulance transferred a patient from HCH to Via Christi - St. Francis Hospital in Wichita.

10:39 a.m. — Incomplete recordings appear to indicate that a call for Tampa ambulance to transfer a patient was cancelled.

12:47 p.m. — Peabody firefighters responded to a report of a downed power line at Vine and Division Sts.

9:50 p.m. — After law enforcement officers intervened, a psychologically disturbed patient who refused to return to Peabody Health and Rehab was transported to St. Luke by Peabody ambulance.

SUNDAY

6:39 p.m. — A breathing but unresponsive diabetic was transported by Florence ambulance from the 500 block of N. Ohio St. in Burns to Susan B. Allen Memorial Hospital in El Dorado. First responders from Burns assisted with the call. On the ambulance’s return trip to Florence, EMTs reported two vehicles driving more than 10 mph over the speed limit.

10:09 p.m. — A 87-year-old woman who fell at Marion Assisted Living Center was taken to HCH by Marion ambulance.

MONDAY

2:08 a.m. — A man with seizure- or concussion-like symptoms in the 1500 block of Victory Lane was taken to St. Luke Hospital by Marion ambulance.

10:06 a.m. — A woman who fell at a residence on K-15 north of US-56 was taken to St. Luke by Hillsboro ambulance.

11:33 a.m. — A call for Marion ambulance to investigate a medical alarm activated in the 300 block of W. 11th St. in Florence was cancelled before the ambulance reached Florence.

12:50 p.m. — Hillsboro ambulance transferred a patient from HCH to Kansas Medical Center, Andover.

2:18 p.m. — Marion ambulance transferred a patient from St. Luke to Newton Med.

7:46 p.m. — A 38-year-old man suffering a seizure in the 300 block of W. 3rd St. was taken to HCH by Marion ambulance after Hillsboro ambulance was paged four times without response.

9:44 p.m. — Peabody ambulance examined a man who cut his head in the 200 block of W. 1st St. but transported him only back to his residence, not to a hospital.

11:25 p.m. — Marion ambulance transferred a patient from HCH to Wesley Medical Center, Wichita.
