These radio dispatches to Marion County firefighters and emergency medical technicians were monitored in the seven days that ended at 9 a.m. Tuesday.
july 19
9:49 a.m. — Marion County Commission issued a burn ban for the next seven days.
1:50 p.m. — Marion ambulance was paged to 1500 E. Main, Marion, for a female who had fallen and had a possible head injury. The patient was not transported.
july 20
2:07 p.m. — Marion ambulance was paged to transport a patient from St. Luke Hospital to Newton Medical Center. The ambulance returned to the station at 4:55 p.m.
3:32 p.m. — Lincolnville fire was called to a pasture fire, one mile south and one mile east of 290th and Zebulon roads. After three pleas by dispatch for responders, Lost Springs firefighters were dispatched at 3:35 p.m. with one unit responding. Tampa ambulance was paged at 3:36 p.m. Marion dispatch asked for a second EMT responder at 3:38 p.m. Marion fire responded at 3:39 p.m. that there were firefighters at the Marion station available to respond. Lost Springs fire said that would be OK. Two Lost Springs firefighters responded with a third leaving from the station at 3:51 p.m. in a brush truck. At 3:42 p.m., an EMT from Tampa responded as a first responder. A second EMT in Lincolnville was available and was picked up on the way. Lost Springs fire crew returned to the station at 7:05 p.m., with the Lincolnville crew returning at 8:27 p.m.
july 21
6:17 a.m. — Marion ambulance was paged to 325 Elm St., Marion, for a 73-year-old female who passed out. Ambulance crew asked for lifting assistance from fire department. Patient was transported to St. Luke Hospital. The ambulance returned to the station at 7:32 a.m.
9:39 a.m. — An off-duty Hillsboro firefighter contacted Hillsboro Fire Chief Ben Steketee to ask if he was aware of a fire west of Hillsboro near U.S. 56 and Diamond Road. Steketee told the firefighter there was a burn ban and no one was allowed to burn but he would check it out.
11:43 a.m. — Marion ambulance was paged to St. Luke Hospital for a non-emergency transfer to Newton Medical Center. The ambulance returned to the station at 2:40 p.m.
12:56 p.m. — Marion fire was called to 104 N. Thorpe, Marion, for an activated fire alarm but there was no fire.
8:39 p.m. — Hillsboro ambulance dispatched to Second and Birch Street, Hillsboro, for a child having a seizure. The child was not transported and the ambulance returned to the station at 9:04 p.m.
friday
10:17 a.m. — Tampa fire and ambulance were paged to 360th and Indigo roads for an unknown fire, possibly in Dickinson County. At 10:38 p.m., units headed back to their stations because no fire was located.
11:29 a.m. — Peabody fire and ambulance were dispatched to a residence on North Maple Street in Peabody for possible gas leak. All units were released from the scene at 11:50 a.m.
10:48 p.m. — Tampa EMT called dispatch to report the ambulance was en route to check an 80-year-old female on Columbus Street who directly contacted emergency personnel. The patient was transported at 11:15 p.m. to Hillsboro Community Hospital. The Tampa ambulance was back at the station at 12:45 a.m.
saturday
1:03 a.m. — Marion ambulance was paged to 1501 E. Lawrence, Marion, for an 87-year-old male who had fallen out of bed and was bleeding from the head. The ambulance arrived at the scene at 1:12 a.m. The patient was transported to St. Luke Hospital at 1:37 a.m. The ambulance was back at the station at 3:30 a.m.
10:36 a.m. — Hillsboro ambulance was paged to Hillsboro Community Hospital for a non-emergency transport to Kansas Heart Hospital. The ambulance left Hillsboro at 10:59 a.m. and arrived at Kansas Heart Hospital at 11:58 a.m. Ambulance returned to Hillsboro at 1:04 p.m.
12:25 p.m. — Marion ambulance was paged to St. Luke Hospital for an emergency transport to Via Christi Hospital on St. Francis Street in Wichita.
12:26 p.m. — Florence fire and ambulance were paged to a location east of milemarker 305 on U.S. 50 east of Florence for railroad ties on fire. A first responder went to the scene. A second page went out at 12:33 p.m. since no Florence firefighters responded but there was no response. Peabody fire was summoned at 12:38 p.m. The Florence first responder on the scene reported at 12:40 p.m. and put out the fire with a shovel and dirt. Peabody fire was called back at 12:48 p.m.
12:44 p.m. — Peabody ambulance, as well as Hillsboro first responders, were paged to 200 Willow Road for an elderly subject who had passed out and was unconscious. Hillsboro and Marion ambulances were both on calls. When the first responder arrived, she notified dispatch that the patient had been transported to Hillsboro Community Hospital because staff did not want to wait for an ambulance to come from Peabody.
2:46 p.m. — A Tampa volunteer called dispatch regarding a possible death in the 500 block of Topeka Street in Lincolnville. Tampa ambulance, Lincolnville first response, and a sheriff’s deputy were summoned to the 500 block of Topeka Street in Lincolnville. The person was deceased and the county coroner was called.
8:03 p.m. — Peabody ambulance was paged to the 300 block of Olive Street, Peabody, for an 80-year-old female with chest congestion. Patient was transported at 8:10 p.m. to Newton Medical Center. The ambulance was back at the station at 9:09 p.m.
9:21 p.m. — A Florence EMT called dispatch to report he was heading to an unknown sick call in Florence. The patient was transported to St. Luke Hospital, Marion. The ambulance was back at the station at 10:22 p.m.
sunday
2:11 a.m. — Peabody ambulance was paged to 100 block of South Olive, Peabody, for a 56-year-old man who got in a fight three hours earlier and was struck in the head and was complaining he was about to pass out. The patient was transported at 2:36 a.m. to Newton Medical Center. The ambulance returned to the station at 3:23 a.m.
2:46 p.m. — Goessel fire and Hillsboro ambulance was summoned to a wheat field fire next to a barn at 723 K-15. Reporting party believed he extinguished the fire but wanted to make sure. The ambulance and firefighters were called back because everything was OK.
7:52 p.m. — A volunteer firefighter called dispatch and asked if there was a controlled burn at 240th and K-15. Dispatcher told firefighter there was county burn ban so no open burning was allowed. Hillsboro fire and ambulance were paged to the brush fire. Chief Steketee told dispatch the residents had recently moved to the county and were unaware of the ban. Emergency crews and equipment returned to Hillsboro at 8:18 p.m.
monday
2:49 a.m. — Peabody ambulance was paged to Hillsboro Community Hospital to transfer a 44-year-old female on advanced life support to a Via Christi Hospital on St. Francis Street, Wichita. The ambulance was back at the station at 5:26 a.m.
11 a.m. — Peabody ambulance was paged to the 300 block of Elm Street, Peabody, for a 65-year-old male who wasn’t feeling well. The patient was transported to the VA Hospital in Wichita. The ambulance returned to the station at 12:47 p.m.
3:35 p.m. — Marion County burn ban was extended to Aug. 8.
7:47 p.m. — Hillsboro ambulance was paged to the 400 block of South Floral Drive, Hillsboro, for 63-year-old female who was unconscious but breathing. Patient was transported to Hillsboro Community Hospital. The ambulance returned to the station at 9 p.m.
5:14 a.m. — Hillsboro ambulance was paged to the 300 block of West Marion Street, Lehigh, for a 25-year-old female who fell or jumped from a moving vehicle. She had abrasions on her face. The patient was transported to Hillsboro Community Hospital.
