Emerald ash borer confirmed to be spreading

U.S. Department of Agriculture has confirmed emerald ash borer infestations have spread into Johnson County. The borer is a pest that kills ash trees of all varieties.

The state now has a quarantine of Wyandotte and Johnson counties. It prohibits movement of ash trees and lumber, as well as any hardwood firewood out of the quarantined counties.

Anyone who suspects a tree has the pest should call (785) 862-2180 immediately.
