Elgin to get new restaurant

Former culinary instructors at Butler Community College who also were chefs in New York City and Wichita will take over the former Chef’s Plate at Parlour 1886 next month.

“We are thrilled to announce that Parlour 1886 has embarked on an exciting new culinary journey under our ownership,” chefs Luis and Alicia Pena announced in an email from the Historic Elgin Hotel.

The Penas wrote that they are “truly passionate” about their craft.

“We bring a fresh perspective and innovative flair to the kitchen,” they wrote.

According to the email, Parlour 1886 will be a full-service restaurant and bar serving breakfast from 8 to 11 a.m. and dinner from 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday through Monday.

Chef’s Plate at Parlour 1886 formerly was operated by Kari Newell, who bought the restaurant in January, 2023. Historic Elgin Hotel co-owner Tammy Ensey announced last week that Newell no longer would operate the restaurant.
