Elgin, Dorothy’s listed
for sale with Wichita agent

Staff Writer

The Historic Elgin Hotel and Dorothy’s Coffee & Tea Room are listed for sale with Wichita real estate agent Sheri Proctor, of Better Homes and Gardens Real Estate Alliance.

Asking price for the Elgin is $1.2 million, but Proctor said sales arrangements for the building and business were “very flexible.”

“We have contacts to headhunters for chefs, so we are marketing it across the country,” Proctor said. “We are looking for someone who wants the right opportunity.”

A potential buyer could purchase the hotel and business, or lease Parlor 1886 and have Tammy Ensey stay on as hotel operator.

Proctor said a few have expressed interest, but she declined to comment on a potential buyer.

The original J.W. Moore house across the street from the hotel that was home to Dorothy’s is listed for $199,000 as a home and $275,000 for the house and business equipment.

Ensey’s parents, Duke and Glenda McCord of Gainesville, Texas, bought and renovated the historic Queen Anne in 2017 intending to turn it into a counseling center. Ensey and her husband, Jeremy, oversaw the house.

“They put far more money into it than they are asking,” Proctor said.

Several have shown interest in the home.

“One could have been exactly what we were looking for,” she said. “Someone who was looking to get out of the crazy city lifestyle for the chance to run an operation like that.”

She said an offer had not been made, but they are hopeful.

“It would fit as a lovely home and would be wonderful to use and operate as a restaurant coffee shop,” she said.
