Eldon Andres

Eldon C. “Andy” Andres, 82, died Oct. 29, 2013, at his home near Peabody. He was born June 11, 1931, in Newton to Peter and Ann (Richert) Andres.

He married Edna F. Harder on Aug. 24, 1956, in Mountain Lake, Minn.

He was a farmer and stockman, and he ran a dairy farm in the Peabody area with his family for nearly 40 years. He was a member of Zion Mennonite Church in Elbing, where he served as a deacon, trustee, and church treasurer. He also served as chairman of the Mennonite Men’s Chorus.

He was active in the farm community, serving on the Marion County Fair Board and Farm Service Agency Board.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Sylvia Jantz and Esther Mae McDonald; and a grandson, Cliffton Montgomery.

He is survived by his wife, Edna of the home; two sons, Lawrence and Craig, both of Peabody; one daughter, Lora Montgomery of Wichita; one brother, Homer of Ferndale, Wash.; one sister, Della Wiebe of Colorado Springs, Colo.; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

A celebration of life service was Saturday at Zion Mennonite Church in Elbing with pastors Ray Reimer and Rosie Epp officiating. Burial was at Zion Mennonite Cemetery, rural Elbing. Visitation was Friday at Petersen Funeral Home, Newton.

Memorial funds have been established with Berean Academy Scholarship Fund and Gideons International.
