Edmund Kroupa

Edmund Kroupa, a lifelong resident of Marion County, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2012, at St. Luke Living Center in Marion.

Edmund was born Oct. 27, 1923, on his parents’ farm southeast of Pilsen, the youngest of three sons of Joseph and Antonia Shramek Kroupa. He attended Beauty of the West School, Pilsen Grade School, then Marion High School, graduating with the Class of 1941.

Edmund was a lifelong farmer and a member of the Pilsen Council Knights of Columbus and served on the St. John Nepomucene Church Board for several years as well as the Pilsen Cemetery Board. He spent the last four years of his life being lovingly cared for by the St. Luke Living Center staff.

Edmund was united in marriage to Mary Lou Novak on Oct. 11, 1952, at Holy Redeemer Church in Tampa. Their union was blessed with five children, Sharon, Joni, William, Theresa and Marty.

Edmund is survived by his wife of 60 years, Mary Lou; Sharon and Kris Kuhn of Wichita; Joni and Stacy Smith of Overland Park and their children Amy, Abby (Bodenhausen) and husband, Justin, Ashley and Aaron; William and Linda Kroupa of Lincolnville and sons Clark and Raleigh; Theresa and Mark Jirak of Atchison and their children Zachary, Kalynn, Anna, Andrew, Joseph and Katherine; and Marty and Kimbra Kroupa of Lincolnville and their children, Clint and Kayla. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Antonia; and two brothers, Virgil and Theo.

Edmund’s rosary was at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 25, and the Mass of the Resurrection was at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 26, both at Holy Family Parish, St. John Nepomucene Church, in Pilsen officiated by Father Darrin May. Interment was at the Pilsen Cemetery.
