Downtown restaurant to change location
Peabody Economic Development director
Pop’s Diner in downtown Peabody is scheduled to change locations this weekend.
The restaurant, formerly Sharon’s Korner Kitchen, has been in its current location at 128 N. Walnut for many years.
Owner Tim Peterson is making the change for a number of reasons, the most important of which is ease of access for his customers. His current location in the old Kansas State Bank Building requires customers to climb several steps to access one of the most popular eating spots in town. In inclement weather, this can be quite a task, especially for elderly or handicapped customers.
By moving the business to 115 N. Walnut, the former Mendoza’s Restaurant location, customers will have “ground level” access to the new space. The building also affords a larger area for customer seating and an expanded kitchen.
“We are excited for the move,” Peterson said. “Anything we can do to make it easier for our customers to access our business we see as a step in the right direction.
“While it will take a lot of work to move everything to the new space, we think it will be worth it in the long run,” he said.
Pop’s Diner will close Saturday at 10 a.m. and re-open in its new location at 6 a.m. Tuesday.
