Dorothy M. Thornhill

Dorothy M. Thornhill, 87, a former resident of Ramona, died Sunday at Hillsboro Community Hospital.

She was born July 14, 1927, at Herington to David B. and Mary (Bauer) McRae.

Visitation will be 1 to 2 p.m. Thursday at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home, Herington Chapel. A committal service will follow at Sunset Hill Cemetery, with her grandson, Robert Taylor, officiating.

The 1945 Herington High School graduate was a homemaker. She collected over 300 stuffed clowns from all over the world.

She married Grover A. Thornhill on Nov. 15, 1948. He preceded her in death in 1988. Also preceding her in death were her son, Jerry Brunner; four brothers, Francis “Jack,” Robert, John, and Michael McRae; and two sisters, Connie Rymer and Mary Lou Siegrist.

She is survived by three daughters, Sharon Middleton of Orlando, Florida, Ruby Anderson of Lawrence, and Alana Taylor of Halstead; two sons, Robert Thornhill of Ramona and Gordon Thornhill of Salina; one sister, Vernie Hawkinson of Elkton, Oregon; 18 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be sent to Salem Home of Hillsboro or the Diabetes Foundation in care of Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home and Crematory, Herington Chapel, 404 S. Broadway, Herington KS 67449-3038.
