Doris Herpich
Doris Alice Herpich, 88, formerly of White City died Oct. 14 at Diversicare in Council Grove. She was born July 30, 1925, to Curtis and Vida (Miller) Hutchens in Antelope.
Several months after graduating from Marion High School, she returned to Antelope as the teacher in a one-room schoolhouse. She attended Emporia Teacher’s College during summers to earn her teaching certificate. She also taught in Dwight and Herington.
She married Lowell Herpich on Aug. 1, 1953. They lived on the Herpich homestead west of White City where they raised three daughters. Doris later moved to Alta Vista, then Council Grove. She was a member of White City United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lowell; and two brothers, Francis and Richard Hutchens.
She is survived by her daughters, Vicki Zimmerman of Alta Vista, Jill Mayer of Alta Vista, and Janet Hartley of Wichita; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Her funeral was Friday at White City United Methodist Church. Interment followed at Clarks Creek Cemetery.
A memorial fund has been established with White City United Methodist Church.
