Twenty Burns seniors and friends met for a potluck meal at noon March 8 in Burns Community Center. Sandy Heyman gave the program and told about a diary that belonged to a great-great aunt, Bea Walters. Bea was married to Hanson Walters and the couple lived in Florence in 1919. Hanson Walters was blind and Bea walked him to church and other places he needed to go. Heyman shared a Braille card that had the account of school district 4 on it.
Burns seniors heard minutes of the last meeting and a treasurer’s report before adjourning.
Austin and Koarlie Bidwell and Zackery of Nevada, Missouri were March 12 supper guests of Al and Bonnie Plummer.
Brooke Gaines has spent her spring break with her grandparents, Ronnie and Patti Gaines. On March 11, they met Kenny and Roma Koehn in Marion for lunch. Patti and Brooke called on Joyce Kyle in the afternoon on March 12. Dusty Gaines joined them for the day on March 13.
Renferd and Wanda Koehn, Lonnie, Vernon, and Judy Koehn were March 12 supper guests of Dalen and Beth Koehn, Cody and Jessica, to celebrate Wanda’s birthday.
Bruce Sayers was a March 13 dinner guest of his parents, Lawrence and Lois Sayers.
Bob and Brody Kyle and a friend called on Joyce Kyle on March 12. Jim and Beulah Gehring were her guests the afternoon of March 14.
Many from the Burns community attended the funeral of Don Nightengale at Newton and the burial and luncheon in Burns on March 9.
Frank Midkiff was buried March 11 at Burns Countryside Cemetery. His wife, Emmy Schmidt Midkiff, is a former Burns resident.
