Deputy resorts to taser
to quell defiant squatter

Sheriff deputies used a taser to subdue a defiant squatter after he refused to identify himself and ran from them at 5:45 p.m. at Grandview Park in Florence.

Deputy Wilma Mueller radioed for backup after an the man refused to give her his identification.

Michael Ottensmeier arrived shortly but his request for the man’s identification was turned down, too.

“I had information he was a wanted felon,” Ottensmeier said. “I went to arrest him. He pulled away and ran from me.”

A brief foot chase ensued until Ottensmeier used his taser to take down the suspect.

Donald McCullough, Jr., 32, Wichita, was arrested on suspicion of interference with a law enforcement officer.

By 6:30 p.m., deputies had confirmed McCullough had probation violation warrants against him in Butler and Greenwood Counties as well as a Newton municipal court warrant for failure to appear in court. He was booked into Marion County Jail.
