Deadline looming for Shopping Spree entries

Shoppers in Peabody have a little more than a week to get their Holiday Shopping Spree tickets validated and dropped into the big gift box in the Peabody City Building lobby. For each $10 spent with a participating merchant, shoppers will receive a punch or a stamp. A ticket is complete when five merchants have validated it.

A drawing for $500, $250, and $100 of Peabody Bucks, honored at Peabody businesses, will be at 2 p.m. Dec. 20 at the city building.

“The shopper should be sure to sign the back of the ticket and fill in the contact information so that those doing the drawing will know who won,” Peabody Main Street president Kelly Penner said. “We have had tickets drawn from time to time over the years with no name filled in and no way of knowing who they belonged to.”

Incomplete tickets also can be turned in for a “Loser’s Bracket” drawing for $70 which will be held at 2 p.m. Dec. 29, also at the city building.

“By adding up the number of stamps or punches on the tickets that are turned in, we can figure out how much money local customers spent in town during the holiday season,” Penner said. “Tickets that are not full still represent sales made locally, so we want to collect that information as well. That is why we do a second drawing. But you can’t win any of the prizes if you don’t shop and get tickets turned in at the city building.”

The annual Holiday Shopping Spree is sponsored by Peabody Main Street and local businesses and merchants. Winners need not be present to win.
