Two Peabody High School graduates were personally involved in two historic events — the assassination of President John Kennedy in 1963 and the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001. Each was a member of the United States Secret Service. Lubert DeFreese, class of 1943, was part of the protective team assigned to President Kennedy. Rebecca Ediger, class of 1970, was in the White House on Sept. 11, deputy special agent in charge of the Presidential Protection Division for White House Security for President George W. Bush.

Sadie Roberts, a student at Sunshine Preschool, exhibits her artistic talent finger painting with chocolate pudding.

Peabody-Burns freshman Isaac Good brought home the free throw contest title from the Burrton Tournament Jan. 20-25.

Feb. 11, 1988

Among college honor students rating is Lynn Hughes of Kansas State at Manhattan who has maintained a 4-point grade average and has been offered incentives to enter graduate work toward an advanced degree in her field of vocational education.

The “Up to the Minute” EHU met Feb. 2 at the home of Maude Gaines.

Mrs. Ethel Skaer was hostess to Friday afternoon bridge club at her home last week.

Progress has been slow but steady in remodeling the new American Legion building this week — a new front was being installed by Charles Porter’s men.

Mrs. Rex Graham was dismissed from the St. Luke Hospital Wednesday, but their little daughter, Lori Lyn remained at the hospital for further care.

Mr. and Mrs. Robert Mathiot of Marion spent Saturday with his sister, Mr. and Mrs. J. O. Moffett.

FEB. 7, 1913

Irene Jessen of the freshman class won first place honors at the declamation contest and was selected to go to Marion.

Mr. and Mrs. John Eberle entertained at Sunday dinner Mr. and Mrs. Phillip Bruce, Mr. and Mrs. James Reigie, and Mr. Joe Eberle and family.

Miss Ella Gard who has been ill with pneumonia the past few weeks is steadily improving.
