Erin Cox of Peabody has been awarded a Forester’s 2002-03 scholarship. Forester, a financial services organization, began its scholarship competition in 1982 as a way to offset the rising cost of higher education among its members.

Kali Alstrom, a freshman clarinet player, was selected to participate in the Kansas Music Educators Association High School Honor Band.

Gretchen Berns, junior at Peabody-Burns High School, has been named to the second team of the 2002 Heart of America all-league volleyball team.

Nov. 12, 1987

A special retirement party and dinner at the American Legion Friday night, Nov. 6, honored Ed Truax for 24 years of government service (as a postal employee.)

The Shirley Crouse Circle met on Wednesday afternoon, Nov. 4, with Louise DeForest. Nellie Propp was co-hostess.

Jessie Richter has been quite generous recently with his offerings of turnips and yellow corn for fall decorating.

NoV. 8, 1962

Early Monday morning a cold front dropped the mercury to 20 degrees here and over much of Kansas.

Peabody came from behind to win a 20-8 victory over a stubborn Roosevelt High team here Friday night on the Peabody gridiron.

Donna Skinner and Patricia Stockebrand spent Thursday and Friday with Virginia Skinner and Beth Stockebrand at Southwestern College at Winfield.

NOV. 8, 1912

Dr. and Mrs. C. L. Appleby returned on Monday after a short visit with parents, Mr. and Mrs. L. H. Appleby in Formosa, Kansas.

John Clark has move into the E. A. Walden house, recently purchase by him.

The Peabody High School football team will play the Fairmount College reserves at City Park Saturday afternoon, at 3:30. Admission is 25 cents.

NOV. 11, 1887

A full line of paint brushes is available at the Pharmacy.

Col. And Mrs. Pickney gave a dinner party for a few friends at their residence on Wednesday of last week.

G. W. Campbell and wife gave a housewarming, last Thursday evening, to a number of their old settler friends.
