Helen Storbeck of Winfield received the Community Cornerstone Award for the city of Winfield.

Navy Petty Officer 3rd Class Dustin Pohlman has completed a rigorous nuclear power unit training course at Goose Creek, S. C.

Frieda Harder, 85, died July 25 at her home in Newton.

July 23, 1987

Agnes Davis, who is now living in one of the local nursing homes, decided not to renew her subscription this year because she can no longer read the paper and the staff just doesn’t have the time to read it to her.

Cindy Lemley, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Don Lemley of Peabody, has enrolled at the University of Kansas.

August 2, 1962

Mr. and Mrs. W. V. Krause and Koni Kay returned Sunday from a two-week vacation. They visited Idaho and Washington and while in Seattle attended the World’s Fair.

Mr. and Mrs. Robert Yoder, Carol, Denis, Evan, and Felisa returned Sunday from Corsica, S. D., where they visited Mrs. Yoder’s grandmother, Mrs. H. J. Breukelman, and other relatives.

Doyle Klaassen of Walton was fined $15 and costs July 30 for speeding on city streets. He was arrested by Night Marshal Frank Woodruff.

July 25, 1912

Improvement prizes awarded by the Commercial Club included the handsomest lawn to S. P. McDonald and the greatest improvement to property to M. H. Calbeck.

Olive Newhard is taking a vacation this week from the phone office and is visiting friends in Moundridge.

Mrs. Chris Nonken entertained the Aid Society of the Stone Church in her home in Peabody one day last week.
