Six positions have been cut from Dist. 398 as a direct result of the financial situation of the Peabody-Burns school district.

Heavy rains fell on Marion County Saturday afternoon and evening, stalling the 2002 wheat harvest.

Peabody Community Living Center has been sold to Mid America Health Center, effective June 1. New owners are Charles and Mary Wurth of Wichita.

June 9, 1987

Harry Homan, Jr., longtime Peabody resident, postal service worker and businessman, died last Thursday, June 4. He was 66 years of age.

Jeff Schmidt placed 3rd in the 400 meter dash at the Jr. Olympics and state track meet held last Saturday, June 6, at McPherson.

James Pohlman, Jr. has accepted the pastorate of the local First Christian Church.

June 7 and 14, 1962

Karla Slaymaker and Vickie Davis will be in Lawrence next week attending Sunflower Girls State.

Teresa Yoder, 7-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Yoder, broke her leg Monday evening.

Gene Larsen, son of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Larsen of Peabody, has been awarded the Claude E. Arnett, Jr. Scholarship for the 1962-63 school year at Kansas State Teachers College at Emporia.

June 13, 1912

It was announced last week that admission to the big baseball game Thursday evening, June 13, will be 10 cents to everybody, but we are glad to say that regular admission only will be charged — 10 cents for men, and ladies free!

At 11 o’clock Tuesday night Peabody people were awakened by the electric alarm to the bright fire, the biggest fire in several years. The Beeton Bros. livery barn and the Commercial Hotel burned like tinder!

S. I. Tibbins and family are camping at Cedar Point this week.

June 9, 1887

The Rock Island track layers will be here in 2 weeks. The bridges are nearly done.

Charley Pecare has a fine “crop” of silk worms and a good many of the school boys and girls are laying up a future store of pocket money this way.

Robert Camp is adding to his residence property and to the long list of lovely bluegrass lawns. Nothing adds so much to the appearance of a place as a neat yard and almost everybody in Peabody seems to realize the fact.
