Mr. and Mrs. Leon Stout of Conway, Arkansas spent several days with Mrs. Harry Scrivner.

Ty Fredrickson of Peabody is graduating at the end of the fall semester at Emporia State with a Bachelor of Science in education.

The Doug Brewer family traveled in Pennsylvania for Christmas. They spent a week with Margaret’s family in Manheim where her entire family of 30 were present.

The Chancel Choir of the Methodist Church held their Christmas dinner Sunday evening at the local church.

Mrs. Nellie Orcutt spent Thanksgiving with the family of her grandson, Charles D. Orcutt. In late October, Mrs. Orcutt celebrated her 90th birthday.

Mr. and Mrs. Harry Hanneman entertained a number of relatives at dinner on Dec. 2.

Dec. 4, 1958

Mother follows son to death in futile attempt. Alex Joe Shank, 11, was the boy whose curiosity led him to his death. His mother, Mrs. Ernest Shank, 34, followed him in a futile and tragic rescue effort. The two were victims of cyanide poisoning in the new Peabody Co-op Equity Exchange metal storage building.

Miss Sheryl Thorton, student at Emporia State Teachers College, spent Thanksgiving vacation with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Don Thorton.

Warren Slocombe was home from Kansas State College on Thanksgiving with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Slocombe.

The Santa Fe is digging a big well just west of the stockyards to get water for engines.

History Club meets with Mrs. W. P. Ross on Friday and the 20th Century Club with Mrs. R. A. Armstrong.

Nov. 1, 1883

Rhodes new drug store building is to have two stories and a basement. The foundation is being commenced this week.

J. B. Pedrick returned last Friday from the southwest plains bringing some 300 cattle for himself and others which will be wintered over here.
