Bo Dee Gaines, 22, died Jan. 25 in Lindsborg.
Kara Marie Kaufman of Hillsboro and Derek John Klingenberg of Peabody, together with their parents, announce their engagement. They plan to marry June 5 at Trinity Mennonite Church in Hillsboro.
Marissa Phillips of Peabody, daughter of Bob and Peggy Phillips, was named to the Dean’s Honor Roll at Bethany College in Lindsborg.

The Peabody Kiwanis Club will be celebrating its 65th anniversary on Feb. 27.
The FFA elected Wade Jury and Chip Winsor to fill two officer vacancies.
Lt. John Dyck flew into Wichita Jan. 27 and spent the weekend visiting his parents.

Jan. 30, 1964
Due to the failure of the heating system at the Methodist Church last week, no church school was held and worship services were moved to the high school auditorium.
The Peabody Board of Education voted to boost the starting salary for teachers to $4,500.
Mr. and Mrs. James South are planning to move to Newton Saturday of this week.

Jan. 29, 1914
The second annual picnic of former residents and tourist from Peabody, Kan., was held at Long Beach, Calif., on Jan. 17, 1914. Notices had been sent to over 100 now living in or near Los Angeles.
An operation was performed Saturday at Axtell Hospital on S.A. Van Scott, a prominent young farmer of Peabody, brought in for X-ray examination by Dr. Johnson. An ordinary size pin was embedded in the right hipbone and overgrown by bony tissue. Over the years, he was treated for various hip pains, rheumatism, and once, appendicitis, and was sometimes bedfast. The latest X-ray revealed the pin and it was removed.
