Peabody City Park was the place to be Saturday evening. Live music and delicious food was enjoyed by just about everybody in Peabody to help celebrate Peabody State Bank’s 100th Birthday. At last count, 750 tickets were handed out.

Fourteen members of the Sorosis Beta Club met Thursday evening, Aug. 19, at Peabody City Park. New members Carmen South and Noreen Weems were welcomed.

Cindy Tapphorn donated all the watermelon the residents could eat. Marion Rosine and Arlene Williams served melon until everyone had their fill.

july 19, 1984

After hitting 106 degrees in Peabody last Tuesday, and then having the heat come back again over the weekend, this part of the world was blessed with a nice cool front early this week.

On Sept. 1, a young physician, Dr. Randy Davidson, has agreed to come to Peabody and be the physician at the Peabody branch of Axtell.

Lucy Hicks will be 90 on Friday. Friends and family are suggesting her friends remember her and join in a card shower for her on that day.

July 9, 1959

Neil Herbert celebrated his 13th birthday last Wednesday afternoon when his mother, Mrs. Donald Herbert, took a group of boys to Newton for swimming, bowling, a dinner, and show.

Nellie Lou Seibel celebrated her 11th birthday with a party last Wednesday afternoon. Guests included Sally Ferguson, Jo Lynn Stockebrand, Leslie Porter, Susan Craig, and Sandy Morris.

Mr. and Mrs. Harold Parker, Landon and Karen, of Kansas City, were weekend guests of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. L. D. Slocombe.

Walter Smith’s little girl has acute lymphadenitis.

The son of Joe Larsen, aged 19, was operated on for appendicitis Monday at his home.

The salaries of the postmasters at Marion and Hillsboro have been raised $100 per year.

We had quite a severe puff of wind yesterday afternoon, after which the air was cool.

A new telegraph line has been added to those along the Santa Fe road.

Sam Hargett of Fairplay Township has commenced cutting his wheat. The yield is very good.
