Peabody and the rest of south central Kansas received some much needed moisture in the form of snow Friday night.

Steve Morgan was named to the all tournament team at Burrton.

Marie Pierce, 72, died Jan. 15, 2002, at Peabody.

Jan. 22, 1987

Members of the Peabody High School senior class and their sponsor, John Ireland, were among the hard working citizens who helped shovel snow during the weekend, keeping the town’s walks and driveways clear.

Seven members of the local Future Farmers of America gave their contest speeches at the local Senior Center last Thursday.

Mrs. Avis Herbert was hostess to the Friday Afternoon Bridge Club last week. Joan Berns was a guest.

Jan. 18, 1962

Troop 70 Girl Scouts met Friday after school. Cheryl Stagner brought nibbles. Myrna Lowden led in the Brownie promise.

The Chamber of Commerce elected Fred Highfill, Jr. to be their president for 1962 at their regular yearly banquet and election meeting Thursday night at the Legion Hut.

Mr. and Mrs. Harold Johnsen, Mr. and Mrs. Ron Kieferle, Beth Berns, and Gene Larsen attended the Kansas Wesleyan/Southwestern College basketball game at Salina Saturday evening.

S.A. Brown purchased a fine 4 year old pacing horse last week.

Mr. and Mrs. Ed Slocombe and Mrs. Harry Davis were in Wichita Friday.

Jan. 27, 1887

Geo. H. Busch broke ground on Monday for a new residence on Main Street, adjoining Henry Stephens home.

It has been extremely dark several nights lately, especially in the vicinity of the street lamps.

Dr. Huss, who is building a house in the north part of the city, had a well dug there last week and reports 5’ of water at a depth of 28’, which considering how dry it is, is not bad.
