Drenching rains fell Thursday, filling area ponds, streams, rivers, and lakes. Two to six inches of rain were reported in Marion County.

Max Ferguson is one of seven educators named Kansas Master Teacher for 1989. Ferguson is a Peabody native and son of Mrs. Luella Ferguson and the late Gene Ferguson.
The retirement of the Rev. Oliver J. Parish who has served the First Baptist Church for the past three years was announced in the local church bulletin.
The board of education accepted the $24,000 bid from F&H Insulation in Wichita to remove Peabody High School asbestos.

Herb Winter announced this week that he will sell Herb’s Lockers at public auction later this month.
Bob Davis of Peabody, who graduated from Kansas State University at the end of the fall semester, is one of the students who won academic honors during that term.
Mrs. Frank Smith was dismissed from St. Joseph Hospital in Wichita after being a patient there the past month following surgery.
