Harold “Bill” Richmond, 77, of Peabody died Nov. 1, 2003, at St. Luke Hospital, Marion.

Gretchen Berns, a senior middle hitter, was named to the first team Heart of America volleyball team. Ashley Miller, a setter for the Lady Warriors, earned a spot on the second team.

Peabody-Burns High School will present an all-school play this year instead of a musical production. “Out From the Frying Pan, Into the Oven,” is a courtroom farce by Timothy Pechey.

nov. 10, 1988

Dr. and Mrs. J.M. Jacobs moved to an apartment at the Presbyterian Manor at Emporia over the weekend.

Mr. and Mrs. Walton Hoyt, brother of Gladys Hoyt, moved into an apartment at Presbyterian Manor at Newton last week.

Wm. V. Krause flew to Caldwell, Idaho, this week to attend the funeral of his sister-in-law, Marjorie Krause. Mrs. Krause died in an automobile accident east of Caldwell last week.

nov. 7, 1963

Mrs. Ralph Gard was admitted to St. Luke Hospital in Marion Nov. 1, for foot surgery.

Marion beats Peabody High School by the same old score, 33-0, same old score for three years.

Ernie Beeton grew the sponge plant specimen displayed in the Peabody Hardware. It is nearly two feet long and four or five inches in diameter. The plant produced 40 to 50 feet of climbing vine and nearly 50 of the long pods.

nov. 5, 1913

Last week Dr. E.H. Johnson was called to the home of Fritz Alder, three miles south of Florence to attend to two of his children, a daughter 10 years of age and a son, six, who he found suffering with infantile paralysis. The family recently returned from a trip to Switzerland and word has been received that a child there with whom the daughter slept while there, developed the disease soon after they left.

Creamery butter, only 27 cents a pound.

Mrs. D.J. Roberts went this weekend for a few days in Baldwin to stay with her daughter, Grace, at Baker University.

nov. 2, 1888

M. Shank’s team ran away this week and broke the water works hydrant opposite J.H.C. Brewer’s house and flooding the streets for several minutes.

Chas. Sawtelle has built an addition to his barn on Rock Island Ave.

The ladies of the Presbyterian Church are doing a large amount of work in preparing for their coming fair which will be given before the holidays.
