Pauline McPheeters, chairman of the fireworks committee for the Peabody Historical Society, reports about $1,500 was cleared on the Fourth of July selling event.

The Peabody Community Band will hold its second annual concert in Santa Fe Park at 7 p.m. Sunday. Peabody has had a great reputation of high school bands during the past 60 years and many members of the Peabody Community Bands who will entertain Sunday evening, performed with those bands.

Private Jay R. Gfeller, Company A, 3rd Battalion, 518th Infantry Regiment, successfully completed basic combat training for the United States Army in Ft. Jackson, S.C.

The condition of Hope Windsor is still very serious as she fights to recover from injuries suffered in an auto accident, according to reports.

John W. Slocombe, a Peabody native, has been recently nominated to receive the National FFA Organization’s Honorary American Farmer degree.

Randy Redger is thanking the Lord these days for what he and his wife, Tina, consider a miracle, in his survival and quick recovery from having been hit by 12,000 volts of electricity. On Friday, July 22, Redger was working in Newton with a KG&E crew using a bucket truck with a bucket arm. As he leaned against the truck, the aerial bucket touched a 12,000 volt line.

Dorothy Mason, Thelma Ross, Tom Nevills, and Neysa Eberhard were among the 250 teachers association leaders who took part Monday and Tuesday in the 14th annual Kansas State Teachers Association Workshop of Presidents at the Kansas State Teachers Association headquarters in Topeka.

Steve Davis of the Peabody Hustlers 4-H Club was named the Best Groomed 4-H Boy at the 4-H Public Style Review Tuesday night, Aug. 20, in Marion.

Jack Collins will be the manager of Seibel’s Sausage House when it reopens next week, according to Bud Seibel of Hillsboro, who established the business here and has operated it the past three years.

Peabody’s Colorado pilgrims are making tracks homeward bound. Somebody reaches home every day or two now.

Mr. and Mrs. George Hett are the parents of twin daughters born Monday, Aug. 18, and weighing 7 lbs. each.

It is so dry this summer that there are no bugs to swarm around the street lights. Even the chickens cannot find any.

Mrs. T.M. Potter was quite ill again on Tuesday, but is now recovering.

Quite a large shipment of reeled silk was sent from our State Silk Station to Belding Bros. factory. It is first class silk, as is all that is produced in Kansas by competent growers.

The Odd Fellows excursion to Los Angeles will start about Sept. 10, tickets good for 60 days. The cost will be railroad fare $60 for the round trip if you return by the same route.
