Last week was the start of the holiday party season in Mayesville. The Paynes hosted their gala open house. Todd Henderson and Charles Fisher were both involved in the motorcycle runs that brought toys to area children.

Mr. and Mrs. Randy Roberts, Drew and Brandon, of Hutchinson and Phyllis Nellans were Christmas guests of Francis Roberts on Friday.

Last Wednesday was the annual Christmas Light Tour for the Peabody Community Living Center. We would like to thank the school for providing the bus, Tammy Yoder for driving, and the Senior Center for the goodies.

dec. 20, 1984

Georgia Zavala passed away at Axtell Hospital Dec. 18.

St. Paul Lutheran Church will host the traditional candlelight Christmas Eve service of Christmas carols and candles for the Peabody community. Lectors representing other congregations in the community will be Rev. Roger Megli of the Baptist church, Virgil Obermeyer of the Methodist church, and John Bloomer of the Christian church. The Rev. Michael Filbranz will preach a meditation.

The Sorosis Beta Club met Dec. 13 at the Olive Street Inn for their Christmas meeting.

Mr. and Mrs W.E. Kidoo spent Christmas with their daughter, Mrs. Wayne Johnson, and family at Canton.

The winter meeting of the Wichita Presbytery was held Monday in the Presbyterian Church. About 80 ministers and laymen were present.

Fairplay Ladies Aid will meet all day Jan. 6 with Mrs. John Ollenberger.

The paintings by Mrs. Loose, on sale at the Methodist fair, are especially commendable.

Our high school scholars need an encyclopedia there, to refer to very often, besides other important books of reference. If you go to the entertainment Saturday evening, it will help the project.
