Chauncey Hughes of Carney, Okla., played right field for a 14-and-younger fast pitch softball team the Oklahoma Power. The team took first place in June at the Oklahoma state tournament in Alva, Okla.

Lindsborg swim team won a recent meet with a score of 597 with Peabody scoring a 580.

july 1986

On June 29, Don and Eileen Myers and Jim Myers and sons of Peabody joined Rod, Winona, and Jeff of Udall at the home of Jere Myers and family in Derby. They celebrated Deidre’s 7th birthday with a cookout.

Charles Ward of Chapel Hill, N.C., came to Peabody for his class reunion. While in town, his mother, Helen Ward of Burlington, Calif., came to visit him.

Dr. and Mrs. John Jacobs spent the July Fourth holiday in Emporia at the home of their daughter, Marjorie Nelson, and family.

July 13, 1961

Marion County Commissioners met this week with Jim Bryant of W.I. Fisher and Associates, an architect from Wichita, to discuss details of the proposed county home for the elderly. The home would be built to replace Cedar Rest.

Investors of a project to install a bowling alley in the former Sunflower building are seeking additional funds from the community. The group purchased the building last month and is hoping to raise an additional $30,000 from anyone interested in investing.

Clinton Hoberecht and Richard McClure of Peabody were named on Southwestern College’s honor roll.

July 13, 1911

A number of Peabody people went to Cedar Point Monday for several days of camping and fishing.

Miss Mildred Pettit returned home Tuesday after a delightful visit with KU friends in Kansas City.

The election to vote $6,000 in bonds for a city building occurs next Thursday at the Stockmen’s Exchange Bank. Let there be a full vote.

The Peabody boys were victorious in each of the baseball games Monday. The score of the school nine was 25-14, of the others 18-5.

E.C. Weaver moved into his large new residence this week, which he had just completed south of the mill. It has a cellar under the whole, 22x28.
