On Thursday the board of education was informed that students in the Burns Elementary School need to be moved to a new location.
Lee and Arlene Rempel will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with a family dinner hosted by their children, David Rempel of Peabody and Joleen Lyons and family of Newton.

Up at the Dari Crème, the folks are showing around a paper towel which will probably never be used for drying hands. On it is written “Hugs and Kisses to Harold,” and it is signed Tammy Wynette.
Mandy Avery of Peabody was one of those qualifying for the swim off staged in Kansas City during the Labor Day weekend.

Sept. 21, 1961
Funeral services were held on Tuesday for Robt. J. Spangler who died last Saturday night in an automobile wreck on the curve 4 miles west of Peabody on U.S. 50. Spangler was 24 years of age.
Charles Slaymaker, postmaster of Peabody for 27 years, died last Friday evening at Axtell Hospital in Newton about an hour after he suffered a self inflicted gunshot wound to the head.
Edgar R. Smith has been called to be the pastor of the Amidon Street Baptist Church in Wichita. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Ross Smith.

The Peabody State Bank has installed a new Savings Department in connection with our regular banking business and will receive deposits on the amount of $1 and up. Interest at the rate of 3 percent will be paid on these accounts.
Frank Prescott was in Wichita a day or two this week.

Miss Jessie Kollock is at Madison, Wisconsin, attending dental college.
W.D. Butler returned yesterday from Poncha Springs, Colorado, where he went hoping to be benefited in health but he says it has done no good.
